Osun NSCDC receives operational vehicles

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command has received two operational vehicles from Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency.

He donated two  branded  Toyota Sienna to the Osun East ‘A’ Area Command; one for Obokun Division and the other for Oriade Division.

This was made known by the State Commandant,  Emmanuel Ocheja through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Atanda Olabisi, at the Command’s headquarters, Ilesha Road, Oke Ayepe, Osogbo.

Commandant Ocheja while appreciating the kind gesture of Hon. Oke, noted that security is a collective responsibility, the need to collectively fight and combat crimes cannot be over-emphasized. He therefore enjoined privileged people, public spirited individuals, and corporate entities in the state for more support to the Corps for prompt response and fight against insecurity in the state. Hon.Oke in his address at the ceremony, emphasized the fact that community security should not be left in the hands of the government alone. He, therefore, advised all and sundry to emulate the gesture to create safe environment for the entire citizenry in the country. NSCDC destroys eight illegal modular refineries in Abia

The Abia Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has destroyed eight illegal modular refineries in the oil-bearing Ukwa West Local Government Area.

The State Commandant of the corps, Ayinla Olowo, told newsmen in his office in Umuahia on that the feat was achieved following the sustained efforts by the command to rid the state of illegal dealings in petroleum products.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that this was coming barely two weeks the command destroyed 10 of similar facilities in the same area.

Olowo said that the illegal refineries were destroyed by operatives of the Anti-vandal Unit of the command, codenamed “Operation Sting”. “The anti-vandal unit carried out an operation in Ukwa West on Feb. 5, to get rid of operators of illegal refineries in the area.

“The operatives destroyed eight illegal refineries and disconnected all the pipes with which they siphoned products from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation’s pipelines.

“By this act, we have succeeded in stopping their activities in the area,” Olowo said.

He described the activities of illegal petroleum refiners as economic sabotage, saying that “their activities are having negative impact on the nation’s economic prosperity.

“This is why we have intensified our efforts to crack down on the operators.

“We cannot allow a few criminal elements to continue to destroy our national asset and source of revenue,” he added.

The state NSCDC boss expressed dismay that the command had yet to make any arrest and blamed the development on the antics of the illegal operators.

According to him, they usually keep people at strategic points in the forest to monitor the environment and alert them whenever there is any movement.

“So any time we carry out an operation, the moment we arrive at the forest, they will all disappear,” he said.

Olowo said that his next target was to uncover the root of the criminal act and those behind it and that the command would partner other sister security agencies in the state to tackle the menace.

Eid-El-Kabir: IGP promises security as FRSC, NEMA mobilise men

Ahead of the Eid-el Kabir celebration, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has vowed to sustain efforts at improving public security and safety across the country.

The IGP gave the assurance while directing Commissioners of Police (CPs) in all the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), to beef up security to prevent lapses in their Areas of Responsibility (AoR) throughout the Eid-el-Kabir season and beyond.

The IGP particularly directed the zonal AIGs and state command CPs to put in place all necessary security measures to ensure an incident-free celebration.

Police spokesman, CP Frank Mba, said: “They are to, amongst other things, deploy human and other operational assets to carry out confidence-building and crime prevention patrols on major highways, residential and industrial areas, vulnerable points, places of worship, other places of public resort and around all critical national infrastructure.

“The IGP also warned that personnel deployed must be professional and mindful of the fundamental rights of the citizens, and discharge their responsibilities with all sense of decorum and alertness.”

Also, the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other major stakeholders, has flagged off safety operations to reduce accidents on the highways during the celebration.

Other stakeholders to partner NEMA include the Red Cross, the Federal and State fire services, and the National Civil Defense Corps(NSCDC).

Flagging off the operation tagged ‘Operation Eagle Eye,’ with the theme, ‘Safe Eid El Kabir’ in Ado Ekiti, the Zonal Head, Ekiti Operations Office (Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun), Mr. Olusegun Afolayan, said the festive periods, always come with increase vehicular movements and more auto crashes. Meanwhile, the FRSC has deployed its men across the states to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration.
