Tyson Fury knocks out Deontay Wilder to win an epic world heavyweight title fight in Las Vegas

The British heavyweight star was on the brink of defeat when he was floored twice in the fourth round, but Fury staged a sensational recovery and dropped Wilder in the 10th before inflicting a crushing knockout to retain his WBC belt. Wilder had been blasted to the canvas in the third round, but the American nearly pulled off a stunning fightback in the fourth, before Fury quickly regained command and eventually broke the resistance of his exhausted challenger. Wilder had been blasted to the canvas in the third round, but the American nearly pulled off a stunning fightback in the fourth, before Fury quickly regained command and eventually broke the resistance of his exhausted challenger.

In a tense opening round, Wilder tried to enforce his aggressive tactics as he forced Fury onto the back foot with stinging body shots and clubbing right hands.

But Fury began to find the range with his hurtful straight right hand in the second, then unloaded it perfectly in the third to daze Wilder, who was cuffed to the canvas. With Wilder badly hurt, Fury went for the finish in the fourth, but he wilted to the canvas after a huge right hand from the Alabama man.

A right hand from Fury sent Wilder crumpling to the canvas in the 10th, and still he threw back, briefly buzzing the Brit with crude shots.

But Fury finally concluded their saga in the 11th as a huge right hand sent Wilder crashing spectacularly to the canvas.

Tyson Fury warned about Deontay Wilder by Top Rank’s Todd duBoef: ‘He had better be careful!’

Fury will defend his WBC title against Wilder this Saturday in Las Vegas, a trilogy fight between two bitter heavyweight rivals. Fury ended Wilder’s title reign with a scintillating stoppage in their second fight, after their first bout ended in a dramatic draw, and has now been warned to be wary in the third clash.

“My gut says that Tyson will do what Tyson does best in a continuation of the second fight,” said duBoef, president at Top Rank, Fury’s American promotional team.

“But he had better be careful. “On October 9 it will give us the chance to put an absolute conclusion to the trilogy.

Joshua and Fury had been in negotiations for an undisputed title fight earlier this year, but to no avail.

DuBoef said: “I can say that when Fury vs Wilder II ended, I looked to my wife and said: ‘This may have been the most wonderful event in my 20 years that I have ever put on’.

“It had energy, it had competition between passionate fans in America and the UK, it had a definitive ending and it was a spectacle.

“I’ve been involved in big fights that didn’t have a definitive ending, like Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Trinidad.

“Then Covid-19 hit and I wondered: ‘Will I ever revisit that unbelievable moment again?…
