Singing sensation Fave & talented producer Damie get plaques for their chart-topping song ‘Baby Riddim’

Fave reached number on the charts on December, 20th 2021 with her hit single ‘Baby Riddim’. The single reached number one after garnering impressive numbers across streaming platforms and also enjoying a fine run on Radio and TV.

The single was produced by ace producer Damie who delivered a Dancehall bounce with Afrobeats elements that combined with Fave flawless delivery for a captivating song.

For Damilola Temitope Adeyemi popularly known as Damie, producing the number one in Nigeria is a special moment and a resounding proof of his talent. After starting out his production career while in secondary school, Damie would go on to produce for talented artists that includes BNXN fka Buju, Show Dem Camp, Fave, Khaid, Fasina and more.

Grammy Academy CEO reveals ongoing consideration for Afrobeats category

While speaking to the press at the Global Citizens concert in Ghana, Chief Executive Officer Harvey Manson revealed that the academy has kicked off the first process in the long road to adding an Afrobeats category to the Grammys. According to Harvey, the academy had a meeting with Afrobeats creatives that includes artists, producers, songwriters, and executives where they talked about Afrobeats and its many Genres.

He further revealed that the members of the academy will have to submit a proposal for the addition of a new category before deliberations will kick off. However, the listening session with the Afrobeats leaders is the first step.

What this means: the addition of an Afrobeats category to the Grammys will mean that songs that fall under the Afrobeats subgenre will be eligible for nomination.

While the Afrobeats is primarily a description of Nigerian and Ghanaian mainstream music, the West has often muddled it up with any sound coming from Saharan Africa. The implication is that South African genres such as HouseAmapiano, and Kwaito might be considered Afrobeats. Similarly, Congolese sounds like the Soukous or the East African Singile might be termed Afrobeats.

It will be up to the Academy to adequately identify the essential elements that make a song Afrobeats as doing this will be the first step in truly awarding the right songs irrespective of where it’s made.

The actress’ lawyers even.tried serving Pitt with a subpoena during this year’s Screen Actors Guild awards, which were held in February.

With Jolie‘s lawyers unable to serve Pitt so far, reports suggest that a man was hired to ambush Pitt at the awards ceremony, though the attempts were unsuccessful.

According to Page Six, Jolie’s lawyers wanted to make a second attempt at the Oscars, though this time Pitt‘s attorneys would intervene.

Jolie‘s lawyers were apparently trying to subpoena Pitt to hand over records and correspondence relating to the Chateau Miraval winery that the pair had invested in while they were together.

What is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s fallout over?

Following their separation, the couple now find themselves in a bitter dispute after Jolie sold her shares in the winery to a subsidiary of the liquor firm Stoli.

Pitt has since claimed that the shares could not be sold without his approval as he had the first right of refusal if Jolie were to sell any part of her stake in the company.…

Headies withdraws Portable’s nominations due to police investigation

The Headies Academy’s decision was necessitated by Portable’s recent running of the law where he claimed he is the founder of the deadly one million boys gang which terrorized Lagos citizens during the lockdown.

Portable would later refute this claim after it attracted wide criticism and led to a police investigation.

Portable has previously threatened to kill other nominees should he lose either of the two categories he was nominated for.

The Headies Academy’s decision to withdraw Portable’s nomination means that he won’t be getting a chance to win the Rookie of the Year and Best Street Hop which he was nominated for.

AFRIMA 2022 Entry Submission Portal to close on August 5th

According to the AFRIMA Juror, representing Diaspora Northern America, Hadja Kobele Keita, speaking from Washington DC, United States of America, the award platform would not extend the submission date beyond August 5, 2022.

“It is important that all relevant parties submit their entries on time this year. We are a very thorough and transparent organization; and we have a clear process for the award ceremony every year. Once submission of entries ends, we spend time in judging the materials, before we can derive our final nominations list. We also have a specific time allotted to voting.” She said in the release.

She further revealed that the process will undergo a thorough independent scrutiny to guarantee its credibility. “The entire process is also audited by a firm of international repute, Pricewaterhousecoopers. We do not just wake up and nominate people. AFRIMA 2022 will be held from November 3 – 6 this year. To achieve this, we cannot extend deadlines at this point.” According to AFRIMA, all prospective entries must have been created between August 20, 2021 and August 5, 2022, being the year-in-review for all submissions. Artistes, talent managers, music producers, recording companies/labels, video directors, disc jockeys and other relevant stakeholders can submit their work or submit on behalf of their clients via the official AFRIMA website via AFRIMA website.

Interested parties should note that all submissions must be done in consonance with AFRIMA guidelines, terms and conditions, which are also available on the website.

This year’s edition retains its existing categories, all of which are carefully curated to celebrate the best of talents within the African music scene.

A pre-screening and a main screening process will be carried out, respectively, by a world-class 13-member jury composed of seasoned music experts from across the five regions of Africa and in the diaspora, between August 5 to 16, 2022.

Bia feat. Nicki Minaj  ‘Whole Lotta Money (Remix)’

Wizkid had previously won the BET HER Award as a featured artist on Beyonce’s ‘Black Skin Girl.’ However, with ‘Essence,’ he becomes the first African lead artist to win a category other than the International category.

Over the last decade, Wizkid has being one of the major acts leading Afrobeats international push and it’s only befitting for him to be the artist to break the BET category limitation for Nigerian and African artists.
