Kingdom emerges winner of Nigerian Idol season 6 in pulsating finale

The finale night also witnessed performances from some of the biggest acts in Nigeria including Mavin’s newest signee, Ayra Starr who performed her song “Away”; award-winning singer Patoranking who performed his new hit “Celebrate Me”. RnB star, Chike joined Francis Atela on stage for a breathtaking duet of the former’s song, “Roju”. While Kingdom and superstar producer Cobhams Asuquo came together for yet another beautiful performance.

Kingdom’s win further emphasizes his musical talent, which he has displayed from the auditions to the live shows, where he constantly wowed the judges with his flawless performances. Kingdom did just enough at the finale to edge out Francis who has equally been a standout contestant all season.

Reacting to his win, a very emotional Kingdom said,‘’My grandma used to say one day you’ll be very great. And then she died. And I almost gave up. But I want to thank the judges for believing in me and my fellow contestants for pushing me.”

Commenting on Kingdom’s emergence as the winner of Nigerian Idol season 6, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, said, “We are proud of what Kingdom has achieved on the show. His emergence as the winner is a testament of how much great talent abounds in Nigeria. Kingdom, a Computer Science and Informatics student at Federal University, Otuoke, and a music teacher, walks away with a recording deal of a six track EP, with music video shoots for three of the songs, and over 50 million Naira worth of prizes, which include a N30 million cash prize and a brand new SUV.

Top 5 Producers and their tags

5. BeatsByJayy

Tag: BeatsByJayy

Rating: 4.7/5

BeatsByJayy is Nigeria’s number one Hip-Hop producer for a lot of reasons, but his tag almost has as big an identity as his work as a producer for AQ, Blaqbonez, Monster Verse, LAMB Cyphers, MI Abaga, Teeto Ceemos and more. His tag is a female voice saying “BeatsByJayy” and then moaning in the most sensual way.

4. Tempoo

Tag: Mad!

Rating: 4.8/5

The tag was different until 2010, but since then Tempoe has become the MAD! Man, producing hits for Omah Lay, Joeboy, Blaqbonez and more. Already, he’s on an upward trajectory with the aid of Stephanie Okocha and Dvpper Dam. The sky’s the limit.

3. Mi Abaga

Tag: Coin Toss

Rating: 5/5

A lot of people know MI Abaga is a music person through and through. He’s a great rapper, but he might be an even better producer. Most people don’t realize that any record that holds that coin toss is his producer tag, but it is. It can be heard on Yxng Dxnzland ‘The Viper.’

2. Killertunes

Tag: Shabalistica

Rating: 5/5

As noted earlier, in 2018, Nigerian producer Killertunes’ tag was more popular than his name. In fact, people thought his name was Shabalistica.

1. Pheelz

Tag: Rih

Rating: 5/5

At some point, Pheelz used Pheelz Mr. Producer. At some point in 2018, he went on a hiatus and came back with DJ Enimoney-inspired tag, Riddimacoolayor! The tag means the rhythm is cool.

Bad Boy Timz’s record label, Anonymous Music announces new artist, Marz

This rising star on the fringe of possible stardom, Elvis Nwogu AKA Marz is set to release his debut single this year, after the announcement of his signing to Anonymous Music this is his first proper entry into the music industry. His much-awaited debut single ‘Again’ drops on Friday, June 25th 2021.

On ‘Again,’ Marz introduces himself on a percussion-heavy beat that shows a soulful, passionate and maybe even vulnerable side of himself.

Marz is a rising Nigerian singer/songwriter who’s been making music since he was 9. His music thrives on riding the continuously changing wave that is the Afrobeats sound which has also been constantly with the continuous fusions of genres to make it even broader, he demonstrates this well on his breakout single ‘Again’.

With his unique combination of coyness, humour and self-conviction, Marz positions himself as an individual that’s open to having honest conversations that he often transposes into lyrics layered into melodies.

After doing music as an amateur all throughout high school, with natural ease and finesse, he started doing music professionally in 2020. After releasing freestyles and covers on his Instagram page and garnering a cumulative view count of over 100k views it’s clear to say that this talent is on to something.

With his sensuous and taunting lyrics, Marz sounds like a bad boy who’s ready to share his talent with the world.

In his own words, Marz says that, “He wrote again in the start of being confused about love due to my past relationships. It’s heartbreaking when you give your love life a 100% and you don’t get the same energy then you find someone new but the scars of the last relationship keep holding you back” and he does this seamlessly as he vibes along with the percussion-heavy Afrobeats beat.

The song promises to be an instant hit for Marz who’s currently sitting on his debut EP that is set to be released in a few weeks. ‘Again’ was produced by soundz.

Billie Eilish apologises for mouthing apparent racist slur in resurfaced five-year-old clip

Billie Eilish has apologized after a video surfaced appearing to show her mouthing a racist slur.

The Grammy-winning pop star, 19, shared a lengthy statement to Instagram Stories, writing that she was “appalled and embarrassed” by the clip.

An edited compilation video is being shared on TikTok, where it was posted earlier this month. In the video, Eilish appears to mouth an anti-Asian slur featured in Tyler, the Creator’s 2011 song Fish, and is filmed speaking in an affected voice.

In her apology, Eilish, the youngest artist to ever record a James Bond title track, said she was “13 or 14” in the videos and did not know at the time the slur was a derogatory term.

“I am appalled and embarrassed and want to barf that I ever mouthed along to that word,” she wrote. “This song was the only time I’d ever heard that word as it was never used around me by anyone in my family.

“Regardless of my ignorance and age at the time, nothing excuses the fact is that it was hurtful. And for that I am sorry.”

Eilish said footage of her imitating accents was her speaking in a “silly gibberish made up voice”, something she has done since she was a child.

She added: “It is absolute gibberish and just me goofing around, and is in NO way an imitation of anyone or any language, accent, or culture in the SLIGHTEST.”

Eilish said she did not mean to cause offence and the prospect of causing people hurt “absolutely breaks my heart”.

“I not only believe in, but have always worked hard to use my platform to fight for inclusion, kindness, tolerance, equity and equality,” she wrote. “We all need to continue having conversations, listening and learning. I hear you and I love you. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”…
