Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’ continues to impress on Billboard Hot 100

In the Billboard Chart dated the week of 3rd September 2022, ‘Last Last’ made an impressive leap on the chart, moving up 12 places from 75th to 63rd position.

This leap is coming off the back of the Burna Boy’s latest sold-out concert in Lowlands in the Netherlands. Also, ‘Last Last’ received an electrifying response from the huge crowd that turned out for the Notting Hill Carnival in London.

The leap signals the continued rise in the song’s popularity which also suggests that a top 50 placement might not be out of reach. Is ‘Last Last’ the Song of the Summer?: At the recently held MTV VMAs at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Jack Harlow‘s ‘First Class’ took home the award for the Song of the Summer.

Billboard Afrobeats Charts: Likewise, Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’ retained its number one position on the Billboard Afrobeats chart in the chart week of August 6th, 2022 thereby extending its stay at number one to four weeks.

Burna Boy consolidated his position as the African giant on the chart as he is the only artist with three songs in the top 10 with ‘For Your Hand’ feat Ed Sheeran in the number 4 spot and ‘It’s Plenty’ holding down the number 9 spot.

Details: Rave of the moment Tems has achieved her first solo entry on the Billboard chart with ‘Free Mind’ which was released in 2020 as part of the singles for her EP ‘For Broken Ears’Free Mind’ debuted at number 90 in the latest issue of Billboard Hot 100 and it’s her first solo entry on the charts.

What this means for Tems: With the debut of ‘Free Mind’ on the Billboard Hot 100, Tems becomes the second Nigerian artist to have four entries on the revered Billboard Hot 100. She got her previous entries from guest appearances in Drake‘s ‘Fountain’Wizkid‘s ‘Essence’, and Future‘s number one single ‘Wait For U’.

In the latest issue of the Billboard Hot 100 which is the official music chart for the United States of America, Burna Boy scored an entry on the chart as ‘Last Last’ appeared at the bottom half in 86th spot.

Since it was released in May, ‘Last Last’ has enjoyed massive domestic and international success and its Billboard debut further proves its growing popularity in America.

‘Last Last’ is one of the songs off Burna Boy’s latest album ‘Love, Damini’ which has also enjoyed impressive patronage in the US and the UK in its first weeks.

Wizkid scores fourth Billboard Hot 100 entry

Chris Brown tapped Wizkid for his Afrobeats-inspired single ‘Call Me Everyday’ which is one of the songs in his latest album ‘Breezy’.

This becomes Wizkid’s fourth entry on America’s official music chart after previously recording entries with Drake’s 2016 hit single ‘One Dance’ which peaked at number one, Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’ which reached Number 76 on the chart, and ‘Essence’ featuring Tems and Justin Bieber which peaked at number 9.

Ckay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ moves 15 places into No. 35 on Billboard Hot 100

On October 10, 2021, Nigerian singer, Ckay’s global smash hit, ‘Love Nwantiti’ moved up 15 places to No. 35 on the Billboard 200. One week earlier, it sat at No. 50.

On September 27, 2021, the Warner South Africa act, recorded his first Billboard Hot 100 record.

On September 21, 2021, the record charted at No. 23 on the Official UK Top 40 and peaked at No. 4 just a week later.

On September 11, 2021, Nigerian singer-songwriter and music producer, Ckay‘s ‘Love Nwantiti’ became the No. 1 song on Shazam’s global charts. The chart tracks the most-searched songs in the world and ranks them on a chart.

The song sat above global smash hits from major superstars like ‘Stay‘ by Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, which is currently the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

The version of ‘Love Nwantiti’ which sat atop the charts features Axel and DJ Yo.

Initially released on Ckay’s sophomore EP, Ckay The First in 2019, the song blew up when its video version featured Joeboy and Kuami Eugene. Ckay has since created several remixes of the record for mileage. Since then, Winnie Harlow has danced to the song on her Instagram stories.

The singer has since released another EP, left Chocolate City and signed to Warner Music GroupSouth Africa.

This comes after Wizkid’s ‘Essence‘ became the most-shazamed song in the US, and after Master KG‘s ‘Jerusalema’ also became the most-shazamed song in the world in Q4 2020.

It becomes the second Nigerian record to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021 after Wizkid’s ‘Essence.’

Boomplay streams now count towards Billboard Charts

This will be effective with data for the tracking week of October 15 through October 21 (Billboard charts dated October 30).

With millions of African songs being streamed on the platform globally, the inclusion of Boomplay’s stream data in the iconic charts provides African and international artistes and music on the platform the opportunity for more exposure on the global stage.

Within MRC Data’s Music Connect platform, Boomplay streams will be included in the ‘Others’ data bucket under Audio On-Demand with data visible on October 12, 2021 for streams beginning on October 8, 2021.

According to Billboard, ‘‘MRC Data’s foundation is built on providing the music industry and our clients with the most complete view of music consumption. We are excited to announce additional data being captured from Boomplay.’’ 

Boomplay’s Director of Content & Strategy, Phil Choi described Boomplay’s addition to the charts as “a significant step in ensuring African artistes on the platform are fairly and equally represented where it matters and that they have access to similar opportunities available to their international counterparts.

“While this might have seemed far-fetched in the past, we now have one foot in the door already following our partnership with Billboard Charts.”

Boomplay’s streaming data added to the Billboard charts represent streams from its subscription tier and logged-in streams from its ad-supported tier, with streams from each tier weighted appropriately.

Wizkid joins Justin Bieber on stage at Made in America to perform ‘Essence’

Nigerian music superstar Wizkid continues his amazing run with a performance at Made in America as a guest artist of Justin Bieber to perform his hit single ‘Essence’. Wizkid and Bieber recently collaborated on the remix of the record and the two performed it for the first time on stage at the Made in America music festival in Philadelphia.

Essence’ has been having an amazing run on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ to crack top 20 of Billboard Hot 100

On Sunday, August 22, 2021, Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar, Wizkid’s smash hit single, ‘Essence’ was predicted to hit a new peak of 16 on the Billboard Hot 100.

This was made known by a Twitter account, Wizkid Radio. On the aforementioned date, the account wrote that, “Due to the remix with Justin Bieber, Essence received 23.2 million radio audience in the US, with 87.3 thousand unit sales this week. Rises to 58% chart points and emerging as the highest gainer amongst 100 songs.

“Predicted to reach a new peak of #16 on Billboard Hot 100.

This comes after the song hit #44 on the chart last week Monday, three days after the remix with Bieber was released. The Canadian superstar also shot his own video for the song.

 

 

 

Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ cracks the Billboard Hot 100, debuts at No. 82

This comes after the song cracked the Billboard Bubbling Under Charts for the first time. This marks a remarkable achievement for Wizkid and Tems, who are signed to the same label and for African music as a whole.

The song marks Wizkid’s third appearance on the charts, after ‘One Dance’ famously hit No. 1 in 2016. For Tems, this marked her first appearance, as her launch gathers heat.
