Comedian D.L. Hughley calls out Mo’Nique over contract dispute

Hughley took to Instagram on Sunday with some choice words for Mo’Nique in response to her public call out while on The Comedy Explosion stage at the Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

The comedian/actor blasted Mo’Nique over her beef with industry folks including Tyler Perry, Oprah and Lee Daniels, the director of ‘Precious’, the film that got her an Academy award in the supporting actress category. Hughley wrapped his shade by comparing her to the abusive role she played in the 2009 film.

“All you have to do is check the order of names on the ticket stub from last night and you’ll see who’s confused. Against my better judgment, over the objections of my team and 4 other occasions where I said NO, I decided to take a chance and work with Monique,” the comedian wrote.

“Oprah was the problem, Tyler Perry was the problem, Charlamagne was the problem, Steve Harvey was the problem, Lee Daniels was the problem, Netflix was the problem… Now it’s MY turn,” he continued. “At some point it can’t be everyone else, IT’S YOU!! Lesson learned. I didn’t have anything personal against Monique… People paid a lot of money to laugh, not hear about your contract. Apparently, the role you played in PRECIOUS turned out to be an autobiography. I wonder who’s next…”

Both comedians were billed to perform at The Comedy Explosion show on Saturday night (May 28). While on stage, Mo’Nique had called out Hughley, claiming she was due to headline but was denied the shot over a disagreement in her contract.

Mo’Nique further claimed Hughley made comments about her and chose the spotlight as the perfect time to bring it up. In the viral video, the actress is filmed saying: “What kind of real n#### would ever attack a got damned black woman?”

She then said that she felt bad for his wife, “N#### your name is D.L., what the f### does it stand for?” Further, implying his initials hint at him being secretly

Navy vows to punish Cute Abiola, says he deliberately violated social media policy

The Nigerian Navy has again explained the reason naval personnel and online comedian, Abdulgafar Ahmad Oliuwatoyin, better known as Cute Abiola is being detained.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Suleiman Dahun in an interview with Punch said the Instagram comedian deliberately flouted the armed forces social media policy.

“There is an armed forces social media policy that was promulgated by the defense headquarters, and its principal regulation is that military personnel should not post photos or videos of themselves in uniform while engaging in personal or official activities, Dahun said.

“Military personnel are also not allowed to make comments or share official military decisions, activities or operations on social media. They are also not allowed to forward materials on social media. Copies of the policy are available with the Director of Defense Information. It is not a restricted document, so it can be made available to anyone who needs it.”

He said after violating the rule, naval authorities invited Abiola, who was on leave at the time to come and explain himself, but he ignored their calls.

“When we got the clip wherein he violated the policy, we asked him to come back to explain himself but he did not return. His commanding officer called him to explain himself concerning the video clip but he ignored his commander and didn’t return until his leave was over.

“When he returned, he was put in custody. If he had come back when he was called upon to explain himself, we would not be discussing this. We are not in an animal farm. We are human beings too but laws have to be obeyed,” he said.

Dahun further said the comedian would be tried first and if found guilty, he would be punished.

“He would get his due punishment, a light one, not something hard. We recognize that he is an entertainer and he could even be given an opportunity to showcase his talent during (social) events of the Nigerian Navy or the Armed Forces. There are two

Dozens of Netflix employees stage protest over Dave Chappelle’s ‘The Closer’

Netflix staff, transgender activists and supporters recently staged a walkout outside the streamer’s Los Angeles offices over Dave Chappelle’s ‘transphobic’ jokes in his ‘The Closer’ stand-up comedy show.

The protests held on Wednesday, saw the protesters demand for inclusivity from the global streaming platform by calling for the funding of more trans and non-binary talent as well as the rejection of transphobic content.

Several videos currently making the rounds featured several Netflix stars including Jonathan Van Ness (Queer Eye), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) who took turns addressing the demonstrators.

Prior to the protests, Netflix had reportedly released a statement in solidarity with the protesters. However, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos had released a statement saying he ‘screwed up’ for his initial comment on the heavily criticized show. He also maintained that his stance on not letting go of the show remains resolute.

Netflix and Chappelle have been embroiled in weeks long controversy over the comedy special released in October 5. The stand-up comedy star joked about Transgender people saying ‘gender is a fact’ and that LGBT people are ‘too sensitive’.

Chappelle has laughed off the backlash, recently saying: “If this is what being cancelled is about, I love it.”

Other LGBT celebrities including Elliot Page and Lilly Wachowski have also voiced their support for the protests on social media.
