Fireboy DML Tells Apple Music about collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Madonna, and Rema

  • Fireboy DML on the numerous remixes of “Peru,” and working with Ed Sheeran  “It was the Ed Sheeran version first, that’s the one that matters, that’s the first. That’s the one. Everything else was about strategic stuff and all that, but the collaboration was the Ed Sheeran one. My team reached out to me like, “Yo.” Jamal Edwards, rest his soul, very close to Ed Sheeran, played the song to him, sent it to him and he loved the song. He took his stance to write a verse, and then he sent me a DM, and sent me VM of his verse. I’m like, “Yo, Ed Sheeran in this record, this is it.” Ed Sheeran is someone I sonically connect to, I’ve looked up to this man for a long time, for as long as I can remember. He actually made me fall in love with the acoustic guitar, and it really meant a lot to me, not just for me, but for the culture as well, because I knew what it would mean for Afrobeats when the record came out. I’m glad to be at the forefront pushing the culture, pushing the genre, this is a record that will stand the test of time. Years later they’ll say, “Oh, Afrobeats opened up in the United States worldwide, internationally, and Peru by Fireboy is one of those records that made it happen.” I’m just really glad, that’s what we want, to open opportunities and build bridges.”
    • Fireboy DML on how the song “Peru” has nothing to do with the country, and what it’s actually about

“[The word “peru” is] also an allusion to a friend of mine, also an artist, Peruzzi. He has uses this tagline in his songs, so I just use it as… it was like a pun, wordplay kind of thing…I was just really telling the story of a young boy who would find himself in a place that he’s never been before. I recorded that song because it was my first time in the United States

Court refuses Baba Ijesha‘s bail application pending appeal

The applicant must show special and exceptional circumstances because the term given to him is five years which is to run concurrently.

“There is no evidence that the appeal has been entered and there is no indication before this court that the court will not treat the case expeditiously.

“It is in the view of this court that the applicant has failed to show special circumstances to warrant him bail because he is facing a serious crime.

“In view of this case, I am inclined to refuse the bail application of the applicants pending appeal,” Taiwo held.

NAN reports that the embattled actor is seeking a bail for an appeal for the five years conviction of sexually assaulting a 14-year- old girl.

Baba Ijesha’s counsel, Mr Gabriel Olabiran, had on Aug.10 informed the court of a notice for bail pending appeal has been submitted in pursuant to Section 6 (6) of the 1999 Constitution as amended and Section 51 of the High Court law of Lagos State, administration of criminal justice law.

Olabiran argued that the application admitted the applicant to bail, either unconditionally or upon reasonable conditions.

He said the application was brought before the court due to difficulty in getting a date at the Court of Appeal.

The state prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sule, however, in a counter affidavits dated Aug.18, argued that the defense failed in its address to establish the special circumstances which might grant the convict bail.

“My lord, the defense has failed woefully in addressing the special circumstances which can be used to grant the convict bail.

NAN also reports that the court had on July 14 sentenced the embattled actor to five-years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

The court held that the prosecution had successfully proven the charge of sexual assault of a minor and indecent

I dated him because he said he was separated’ – Halima Abubakar opens up on relationship with Apostle Johnson Suleman

In a series of posts shared via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, September 18, 2022, the movie star called out the controversial pastor for allegedly paying bloggers to write demeaning stories about her.

“Every month only you. How do you sleep? You paid off the blogs, only you, God forbid. Look for lies and send it to your bloggers. They need am,” she wrote.

“But you you you JS. You bought market Sule. Emperor Sule. Allow me rest biko. Don’t fuck with me bro. Dude.”

The actress also revealed that the reason she had an affair with the pastor was that he told her he was separated. “I fuck up yes. I own my mistakes. But I won’t lie anymore. Nigga said he was separated. I didn’t meet a married man. I met a bizman with three kids. Long story, stay away from liars,” she revealed.

Abubakar has been in the news for months over her alleged relationship with the pastor.

At some point, she called out one of her colleagues, Shan George for denying not having an affair with the pastor.

Several female celebrities have been romantically linked to the pastor. However, some of these celebrities have come out to dispel the rumors.

In July, Nollywood actress Georgina Onuoha denied dating the Auchi-based pastor.

She also slammed those who have been fueling the alleged affair. “Many have been a blessing to my life for that I am grateful. I will repeat many of us are cut from different fabrics. So please keep your shit life to yourself. Don’t bring it on my street. The level of joblessness amongst some low-live scumbags is alarming,’ she wrote.

Vinicius Jr. ignores racist chants, keeps dancing in Madrid derby vs. Atletico; Real Madrid stay perfect in LaLiga

A tense, chippy affair ended in a 2-1 win for Real Madrid, who stay perfect in LaLiga this season amid jeering for Vinicius Junior from Atletico’s fans.

Goals from Rodrygo and Federico Valverde put Real Madrid ahead early, and a goal from Atletico’s Mario Hermoso followed by a red card eight minutes later didn’t do much to help the hosts’ cause.

Rapid Reaction

1. Rodrygo, Valverde and Vinicius are Madrid’s future

It’s happened fast, but this season already feels like the beginning of a new era at Real Madrid, with Rodrygo (21 years old), Vinicius Junior (22) and Fede Valverde (24) as this team’s new stars.

It’s a process that began during last year’s Champions League run and is now impossible to ignore. One or more of Rodrygo, Vinicius and Valverde have scored in each of Madrid’s last seven games — Rodrygo’s opener made it three league games scoring in a row for him — and together they sum up this fast, direct, clinical Madrid team.

Veterans like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are still very much present — both were excellent against Atletico — and of course Karim Benzema will come back into the team when he returns from injury. But this was a night that was all about Madrid’s vibrant, irrepressible front three.

After a positive start from Atletico, it was Rodrygo who opened the scoring, firing Aurelien Tchouameni’s floated pass beyond Jan Oblak, and when Vinicius’ low shot hit the post and rebounded across goal, Valverde was there to make it 2-0 and effectively end the contest, despite Atletico’s late fightback. Amid all the noise of a frantic Madrid derby, those two moments of quality made the difference.

2. Appalling racist chants demand action from Atletico

The footage of a group of Atletico Madrid fans singing a full-throated racist chant directed at Vinicius outside the Metropolitano stadium before this game was sickening, dispiriting and, unfortunately, nothing new.

Atletico’s hardcore group of ultras, the Frente Atletico, have been guilty of such incidents on numerous occasions before — …

Gunners cruise, remain top of the table

Arsenal cruised past Brentford to stay top of the Premier League table heading into the international break.

Goals from William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus set them on their way in the first half and a stunner from Fabio Vieira sealed the win, as Mikel Arteta’s side responded superbly following their first setback of the season last-time out at Manchester United.

The victory means Arsenal have won six of their first seven games this season and sit atop the table on 19 points, one point clear of second-place Manchester City. Brentford have nine points and Thomas Frank’s side just weren’t at the races on Sunday.

What we learned from Brentford vs Arsenal

This win underlines Arsenal’s progress: Their horrendous defeat at Brentford at the start of last season underlined all of the issues Arsenal had. Just over 12 months later, this convincing win underlined the progress they’ve made. A clear playing style with a young, hungry side who have been painstakingly recruited. Even with Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko out, Kieran Tierney and Vieira slotted in seamlessly as Arteta’s side dominated from start to finish. They are playing with confidence throughout the team and after a few years of building, this is what Arsenal wanted to become. The only issue is the fact that their squad looked pretty thin as a few injuries piled up with teenagers on the bench and Ethan Nwaneri, 15, became the youngest Premier League player in history when he came on late in the game. With the Europa League and League Cup coming up in the weeks after the international break, Arteta will be hoping his squad remains healthy to make the most of all of this positive momentum.

Brentford energy levels unusually low: It was a real off day for the Bees as they suffered their heaviest home defeat since being promoted to the Premier League. Thomas Frank’s side just weren’t at it as usually they push high, force teams into mistakes and pounce on loose balls. There was none of that on …

Force PRO to Nigerians: You‘ve no right to retaliate even if a policeman slaps you

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has said Nigerians have no right to respond if they are slapped by policemen on duty, whether in uniform of not.

Adejobi made the statement on his Twitter account after a viral video of two men confronting policemen went viral.

The incident, said to have occurred in Meiran area of Lagos State, had two civilians who claimed that the phone of one of them was seized by the policemen, dragging their rifles with them.

The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the duo had been arrested.

Hundeyin said they would be charged to court on Monday (today).

Responding, Adejobi said confronting a policeman on duty was wrong.

The Chief Superintendent of Police tweeted: “Even if a policeman on uniform slaps a civilian, the civilian has no right to retaliate.

“More so, if he’s on uniform, it’s an act of disrespect to Nigeria to beat an officer on uniform.

“The disrespect is not to the policeman but to our nation and it’s a crime as enshrined in our criminal laws.

“So, it’s not a case of what the policeman did that led to it, but the reaction of the civilians who actually assaulted the police.

“If police assault a civilian, you report and actions will be taken to rebuke him, not to take the law into your hands.

“Let alone, it’s a matter of checking of phones, which can be easily reported and addressed.

“Now they are kept in our 5-star hotel in Lagos and will be in court on Monday.

“Are you going to visit them or send them food, or appear in court to defend them?

“Don’t support what is bad, ok.”

Reacting to attacks that trailed his initial response, Adejobi further tweeted unedited: “Whatever happens between you and that policeman will be irrelevant or immaterial the moment you beat him on un-form, bc it will be a case between you and d state or law.

“Don’t attack him on uniform, even if he’s on mufti on duty, …

Pastor Oyakhilome Foundation inaugurates 100% free school in Lagos

The Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International on Sunday inaugurated its 100 per cent free school in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The free school project of the Foundation in Ibeju-Lekki is built under the auspices of the Inner City Mission for Children.

It is the fourth in Lagos State and 10th in Nigeria.

The Chief Sponsor of the project, Pastor Deola Phillips, who spoke on behalf of co-sponsors at the inauguration, said that the 100 per cent free school project was to ensure that indigent children had access to proper education.

Phillips, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Love World Incorporated, said that education remained a core focus area for the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International.

She said that in Nigeria, the estimated number of out-of-school children remained unacceptably high, as reports had it that poverty was a major reason why millions of them had never seen the four walls of a school or had dropped out of school.…

Roger Federer Is Retiring From Tennis After $1B in Endorsements—Here’s How Much He’s Worth

Roger Federer is regarded as one of the greatest athletes in tennis and with that comes millions in prize money and around $1 billion in endorsements. It’s understandable, then, if you’re curious how much he made over his 24-year career and what Roger Federer’s net worth is now that he’s retired.

After 20 Grand Slam singles titles, two Olympic medals, and holding the record for the longest consecutive weeks as world No. 1 (237 weeks, to be exact), Federer announced he was retiring from tennis on September 15, 2022. “As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries,” he said in an audio clip shared on social media. “I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old, I have played more than 1,500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamed and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career.” He continued that the Laver Cup in London would be his final professional tournament, though he would continue to play tennis recreationally. “This is a bittersweet decision because I will miss everything the tour has given me. But at the same time, there is so much to celebrate. I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on earth.”

What is Roger Federer’s net worth?

Roger Federer’s net worth is estimated to be around $550 million and has earned $130.5 million in prize money over more than two decades in the sport. Because everyone has to start somewhere, Federer started off earning a modest $28,00 in his first year of professional tennis. Year by year, his career earnings grew to $129 million by the time of his retirement. That’s the third highest in tennis history, just under Rafael Nadal’s $131.6m and Novak Djokovic’s total of $145m. 2007 was his most lucrative year …

ASUU strike: Buhari told us not to sign agreement we can’t implement — Minister

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari warned the government team involved in the negotiation with the Academic Staff Union of Universities against signing any agreement the government would not be able to implement.

The Minister said this on during a meeting with Pro-Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities on Tuesday.

At the meeting held at the National Universities Commission office in Abuja, Adamu said: “In all we have been doing, our guide has been the directive of Mr President Muhammadu Buhari, namely that while the unions should be persuaded to return to work, Government should not repeat the past mistakes of accepting to sign an agreement it will be unable to implement.

“Government should not, in the guise of resolving current challenges, sow seeds for future disruptions.”

The Minister, who traced the face-off with ASUU and other unions in the university, added: “To confound matters further, the three other university non-teaching staff unions – SSANU, NASU and NAAT also declared trade disputes against the Federal Government and commenced nationwide Industrial actions a few weeks later. NAAT started its strike on March 17, 2022 while the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU followed suit on March 27, 2022.

“In response to the Unions’ demands, the Federal Government reconstituted the FGN/University-based Unions 2009 Agreement Renegotiation Committee, with Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs as Chairman on 7th March, 2022. The Committee was charged with the responsibility of concluding the ongoing Federal Government renegotiation efforts with the University-based Unions and producing appropriate solutions, workable and enduring agreements for the improvement of the Nigerian University System.

“While the Briggs Committee was busy interacting with the Unions on all the issues, a Federal Government Inter-ministerial Team, under the leadership of the Minister of Labor, Dr. Chris Ngige, was simultaneously engaging the Unions and resolving some of their minor demands, such as salary shortages and payment of arrears of the minimum wage consequential adjustments as well as payment of promotion arrears. The Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning was …

NANS wants urgent intervention of Buhari in ASUU strike

The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the lingering strike by Academic Staff Union of University to enable students to return to school.

The newly-elected President of NANS, Usman Barambu, made the call at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.

Barambu described as worrisome the lingering dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government, which had lasted for about seven months.

He noted that the incessant strikes had affected the academic calendar of public universities. He said: “Also, it has negatively impacted on the future of Nigerian students as a program of four years now would last for six years.”

Similarly, the Chairman, Communiqué Drafting Committee, Usman Ayuba, urged Buhari to bring on board capable hands with experience and capacity to stem the tide of insecurity in the country. Ayuba also appealed to the government to proffer workable solutions to address incessant clashes between farmers and herders across the country.

He called on the Ministry of Education to give priority attention to the sector in terms of budgetary allocation to meet the UNESCO standard and recommendation of setting aside 26 per cent of annual budget to education by developing countries.

The students also wanted lecturers involved in the business of Sex for Marks to desist from such nefarious activities, stressing that students would expose anyone found culpable.…
