National NURTW sacks MC Oluomo, dissolves Lagos council

The National Union of Road Transport Workers has dissolved its Lagos State council under Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo.

The National Administrative Council of the union made this known in a statement titled ‘Dissolution of Lagos State Administrative Council’, jointly signed by its national president, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, and general secretary, Alhaji Kabiru Ado Ya’u.

The union said the decision was based on the provisions of the union’s constitution.

The union’s secretary in Lagos State, Seyi Bankole, was subsequently announced as the new head of NURTW in Lagos. “MC Oluomo has been sacked as Lagos chairman. We had a meeting last night. We have replaced him,” a national officer of the union told The PUNCH.

When asked about Oluomo’s earlier withdrawal from the union, he replied, “It holds no ground. That’s unacceptable to us.”

The PUNCH had reported that there is a leadership crisis rocking the NURTW in Lagos, leading to MC Oluomo and his supporters pulling out of the union on March 10.

MC Oluomo, who had been in a running battle with the national body of the union in Abuja, was earlier suspended for alleged insubordination.

NAC explained that MC Oluomo was granted a pardon after the mediation of the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and other leaders but he refused to apologise.

“The National Administrative Council during its meeting of March 15, 2022, graciously passed a resolution to grant pardon to the suspended state chairman if he shows remorse and tenders unreserved apology to the union.

“However, up until this moment the suspended chairman has bluntly refused to do so; hence, the decision to take action against the Lagos State administrative council by dissolving same,” the statement read in part.

“The National administrative council in the exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 17, section 2. subsections (i) and (ii) of the constitution of the union, during its meeting of April 5th, 2022, has dissolved the Lagos State administrative council forthwith.

COVID-19: PSC lifts midnight curfew, movement restriction

The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 has reviewed the country’s response to the pandemic in view of declining number of cases.

Boss Mustapha, the Chairman of the committee and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said on Wednesday in a statement in Abuja that the decision followed reduced risk of importation of new variants.

He said the decision was also due to availability of vaccines and increasing number of people vaccinated in Nigeria and globally.

Mustapha said the social restriction recommendations were revised in line with the three established thematic areas – movement, industry and labor, as well as community activities.

The SGF stated that the safety protocols provide a baseline from which state governments could further build on to strengthen their responses based on their local circumstances.

“States should continue to consider them as the minimum guidelines required to ensure acceptable level of epidemic control nationwide,” he stated.

He said there were no more formal restrictions on movement within the country as the nationwide curfew imposed from midnight to 4 a.m. had been lifted.

He added that the advisory limiting Nigerians to essential travels had been lifted, although citizens need to refrain from non-essential movements and comply with non-pharmaceutical guidelines such as the mandatory use of facemask/facial coverings in public, given the risks involved.

“Use of face mask to be mandatory for indoor activities but at individual’s discretion during outdoor activities.

“Those aged 60 and above or with co-morbidities such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are advised to uphold the use of universal precaution which includes the use of face mask, avoid crowd and frequent use of hand sanitizers,” he added.

According to him, no limitation on air travels – both domestic and international flights; but both international and domestic travelers must abide by existing protocols, including the use of face mask while onboard and taking personal precaution measures.

He stated that all arriving international passengers must register with the Nigeria International Travel Portal (https://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng) and abide by the travel guidelines.

Why we established Political, Governance Directorate — RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has underscored the need for people, especially Christians, to rise and vote during elections and not only to pray.

Pastor Timothy Olaniya, Deputy Rector, Redeemed College of Technology, Redemption Camp, made the call on Sunday.

Olaniya spoke during a seminar organized by the Directorate of Politics and Governance, RCCG, Oyo Province 1.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the seminar held in Ibadan and had as its theme: “Nigeria Politics and Governance: The Church Approach.” Olaniya, also the Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG Lagos Provincial 12, remarked that the era was gone when the church would only pray and relax without taking further steps to vote.

He said: “The church has prayed and will keep on praying as part of its Christian responsibility for the nation.

“But after praying, we cannot just sit down.

“Prayer will not use leg to go and collect PVC and vote.

“It will take people to rise up and do so.

“Christians should rise.

“Let’s see how God will use us to rescue our country.”

Olaniya said the RCCG was following the directions of the Christian Association of Nigeria and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria to raise a department for politics and governance.

He added: “The Foursquare Gospel Church, Deeper Life, Redeemed Evangelical Mission and others have also started to establish the department.

“All over the 36 states, we have gotten the Directorate already under the CAN and PFN, not only the RCCG.”

He spoke on the need for the country to have leaders who are ready to serve selflessly with contentment, like Daniel in the Bible.

He said: “We need people who will make a difference, be trusted with money and power without compromise.

“Christians in politics must do the work righteously and maintain their integrity.

“More importantly, we must not leave prayers outside what we do to be divinely guided.”

Olaniya called on Christians to remove the mindset that politics was a worldly and dirty game, calling on them to participate, vote and be voted for.

‘Sometimes some family members are your worst enemy’ – 2Face Idibia reacts to wife’s brother’s allegation

Nigerian music icon 2Face Idibia has reacted to the allegations levelled against his wife Annie by her elder brother, Wisdom Macauley.

The singer took to his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, where he penned a short note about the frosty relationship between his wife and her brother.

“Respect to family but sometimes some family is your worst enemy,” he wrote.

According to him, Annie turned him into a slave and refused to pay him all his dues during the period he worked for the actress.

“Hello Nigerians, my name is Wisdom Macaulay, I am the elder brother of Annie Macaulay Idibia. I’m crying out for help at this moment because my life is been threatened. I have been working with my sister for some time but she would never pay me my dues,” he said.

He also accused his sister of being a drug addict and a thorn in the flesh of everyone in their family.

“Annie introduced me to drugs, hard drugs, Annie takes drugs, she is a drug addict, she takes it every day, she is so violent, she doesn’t have peace with anyone, she fights everybody.”  In her response, the actress accused her brother of being irresponsible.

Apparently, their rift started after she refused to make him her manager, a position she wasn’t comfortable with. She also alleged that she has been responsible for the upkeep of his family for a very long time.

The actress said her brother had several times threatened to kill himself over petty reasons.

She finally advised him to stop acting like he is entitled to money and to leave her family alone.

Police visits Will Smith’s home after actor slaps Chris Rock

Men of the Los Angeles Police Department have visited the home of American actor Will Smith two days after he slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars.

Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada’s bald head and got slapped by the ‘Fresh Prince of Belair’ star.

Officers were spotted driving into the gates of the Smiths Calabasas mansion in a marked patrol car at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Splash News reported as they snapped photos of the police vehicle. Los Angeles County Sheriff spokesperson said they got a call that someone was flying a drone around the Smiths’ residence.

“We just sent that unit over there to try to locate the drone and see if there was a paparazzi or what was going on but when the deputies got there, they weren’t able to locate the drone. It had already left the area,” he said.

On Sunday night during the awards, Rock took to the stage where he made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada’s bald head.

“Jada, I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” but while the “King Richard” star first laughed about the joke, he immediately turned sour.

Smith walked up to Rock and slapped him. A few seconds later, Rock responded, “Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s–t out of me” before defending what was “just a ‘G.I. Jane’ joke.”

But the Oscar-winning actor was not having it and again screamed, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”

“That was the greatest night in the history of television,” Rock remarked.

Smith has since apologized over the altercation.

Nigeria vs Ghana: Confusion as CAF doctor collapses, dies after fans invaded MKO Abiola Stadium

Confusion has surrounded the death of Confederation of Africa Football’s doping doctor, Dr. Joseph Kabungo.

Kabungo, a Zambian medical practitioner, was said to have died shortly after Ghana stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday.

There are reports that Kabungo died as a result of the stampede that occurred at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja before the commencement of the match.

However, another account blamed fans’ invasion of the pitch after the match for the doctor’s death. It was also reported that the doctor suffered a cardiac arrest.

Neither officials of the Nigeria Football Federation nor CAF have confirmed the doctor’s death.

This is as efforts to reach the officials proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

British-Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, tweeted that the doctor’s death was confirmed after he was rushed to the hospital.

It was learnt that Kabungo’s family, the Zambia FA and the Government of Zambia had been informed.

Osasu tweeted, “Sad news: I understand that an official for the @NGSuperEagles vs @GhanaBlackstars
match (not a referee or assistant referee) died in #Abuja today.

“His name is Dr Joseph Kabungo from Zambia. He was on duty as Doping officer. He collapsed suddenly and died. Cause of death not confirmed yet. His family, the Zambia FA and the government of Zambia have been duly informed.

“If the death of #Zambian doctor Dr Joseph Kabungo at the #Abuja stadium was caused by being attacked by the #Nigerian fans who invaded the pitch, after the @NGSuperEagles lost the @FIFAWorldCup ticket to @GhanaBlackstars, @thenff would be in terrible trouble with @FIFAcom.”

A Ghanaian sports journalist, Collins Poku, who was also at the venue of the match, alleged that the doctor was beaten to death.

While replying Osasu’s tweet, he posted, “They beat him, he fell and they throded on him. He lost consciousness was rushed to an ambulance closer to the Ghana dressing for CPR. The entire Ghanaian contingent watched on as resuscitation attempts were made with oxygen mask. He was taken …

“So that’s how one celeb blocked me on Instagram because he asked me to come meet him at the George Ikoyi for a meeting and I said I can’t come to meet him there for a meeting and a three-way call would be better and oga blocked me on IG,” she wrote. “These Nigerian celebs be seeing their Lil ass as small gods. I hate social media drama so much but it’s getting too much at this point.” She went on to share screenshots of the messages between herself and the former Mo’hits record label signee.

DJ Dimplenipple accuses D’Prince of blocking her on Instagram for refusing to meet in a hotel

Why I dedicated a white garment church – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has offered reasons why he dedicated a white garment church last September.

Adeboye offered the reason for the dedication of the church on Sunday during a special sermon titled: “Going Higher (Part 54).”

The Man of God, who recently turned 80, had come under scathing criticism for dedicating the Lagos Cathedral of the Love of Christ Generation Church C&S (Worldwide), founded by Reverend Esther Ajayi.

Speaking on the event on Sunday in his sermon, Adeboye said: “In Acts 11:1-18, after Peter came from the house of Cornelius, the great apostles gathered together, called him to a meeting and challenged him: ‘What were you doing in the house of a gentile? We heard that you went there?’ “They didn’t tell us all that they said but they probably told him” ‘You went to the house of a gentile because he was rich.’

“Peter had to say that the spirit made him go.

“Whether you believe it or not, I got quite a lot of queries recently from well-meaning Christians: ‘Daddy GO Sir, we learnt that you went to a white garment church to dedicate a church. You of all people?’

“I said the spirit made me go. I was obeying the spirit.

“Years ago, I think 1982 or so, I was invited to one little white-garment church.

“It wasn’t a big one.

“I went because they said they have heard about me and I should come and preach.

“I got to the door, they asked me to remove my shoes.

“I did, because the spirit made me go.

“There was a man in the church, an Engineer, that God knew He was going to need in the building of a campground that we had not even located at the time.

“I went, I preached, he (the engineer) gave his life to Jesus.

“He came to the Redeemed Christian Church of God and he became the Engineer who started the work of the camp.

“He was the second-in-command to …

Adamu, other defected new APC NWC members are repented sinners — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the new National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and others who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party and elected into the APC’s National Working Committee are repented sinners.

The President made his position known in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

The statement on Sunday followed the criticism by the PDP that Adamu and some others who defected from the PDP to the APC were accommodated in the ruling party at the federal level to cover for their “sins”.

Apart from Adamu, others who defected from the PDP and now in the NWC of the APC elected by consensus on Saturday at the party’s National Convention in Abuja on Saturday included Senator Iyiola Omisore, Hon. Victor Gaidom and Osita Medener. But reacting in the statement by Shehu on Sunday, Buhari said: “That some of the APC’s new leadership were once in the opposition was the new line to take to the media, somehow suggesting that those who have left one party should not hold positions in another. Yet, do the Scriptures not teach us of the virtue of sinners who repent and change their ways?

“What the Scriptures say less is of sinners who repent, change their tune, and then choose to re-sin in full public view by returning to their former ways. Given that most important leaders of the opposition PDP first left the party before they returned to it, we might expect the media to ensure criticism of them is damning and absolute.

“It is incredulous that anyone would consider them trustworthy or acceptable candidates for any public office.”

Speaking on the next line of action for the party, President Buhari said the time had come to prepare the grounds for the primaries for the 2023 elections.

He said: “No doubt some will attempt to argue the impossible – that an APC primary election is a source of division while an opposition primary election is a source of consensus.

“But the good …
