LadiPoe scores 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards nomination

On September 10, 2021, Nigerian rapper, LadiPoe was nominated for Best International Flow at the 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

He is nominated alongside six other international artists including Nasty C (South Africa), Xam (Brazil), Laylow (France), Gazo (France), Little Simz (UK), and Dave (UK).

A few years ago, Ghanaian legend, Sarkodie won that category. For LadiPoe, this comes after a stellar 18-month run, which involves two smash hit records, ‘Know You’ featuring Simi and ‘Feeling’ featuring Buju.

Burna Boy wins BET’s Best New International Act award

For the third time in a row, Burna Boy took him the plaque after he was named the winner at the 2021 BET Awards on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old beat fellow Nigerian singer Wizkid, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania and other artistes to win the award.

He was present at the ceremony and collected the award himself after he missed the opportunity in 2019.

“I made it this time to collect my award myself,” he said before he taught the audience a bit of Pidgin English.

I want to teach you guys a little bit about where you are all really from,” he said with his mum standing beside him before urging them to speak a phrase in Pidgin English.

Burna Boy, Wizkid Both Nominated For International Act category at the BET Awards

Both superstars got nominated in the Best International Act category. French singers, Aya Nakamura and Youssoupha; Tanzanian superstar, Diamond Platnumz; Brazilian act, Emicida; British acts, the rapper Headie One and the duo Yung T and Bugsey are all nominated in the category as well.

Burna Boy has won in the last two years and Wizkid won it in 2012, when the category had two divisions for Africa and the UK. Earlier in the year, Wizkid and Burna Boy won the Best Music Video and Best Global Music Album categories respectively at the 2021 Grammy Awards. In 2020, Wizkid also won the BET HER Award for ‘Brown Skin Girl.’

Wizkid and Burna Boy also featured together in Wizkid’s video for ‘Ginger,’ which dropped earlier in the year.

According Business Wire, internationally, the show will simulcast on BET Africa at 2 am CAT and MTV Brazil at 9 pm BRT on June 27th, followed by international broadcasts on MTV UK on June 28th at 9 pm BST, BET France on June 29th at 8:45pm CEST.
