PDP To Change Name, Summons Emergency Meeting

There were reports on Sunday that the Peoples Democratic Party was considering a change of name.
This was further fuelled with the decision of the party to summon an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee for Monday.
The invitation for the meeting was sent out on Sunday.
It is scheduled to hold on Monday at 4pm at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.
The notice of the meeting, signed by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Umaru Tsauri, was, however, silent on the agenda of the meeting.
Umar in the notice said the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, enjoined all members to attend.

Ekiti House Rejects Governorship Election Results

New story reaching us on the ekiti elections.
Members of the Ekiti House of Assembly have condemned and rejected the result of the July 14, 2018 governorship election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Speaking at the House plenary in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, the Leader of Business, Hon. Akinyele Olatunji, described the process leading to the election and final result as unfortunate.
Akinyele condemned the alleged harassment of the State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party across the state and members of the state Assembly by security men.
The Chairman House Committee on information, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, said the election of July 14, 2018 did not meet up with all democratic credentials.
Omotosho pointed out that the election was marred by outright brigandage, vote buying and falsification of results.
In his contribution, the Deputy Whip of the Assembly, Hon. Ekundayo Akinleye, remarked that the outcome of the July 14 governorship election had shown that Nigerians should not expect free and fair election in the 2019 general elections.
Akinleye pointed out that there were discrepancies in the final figures released by INEC.
In his reaction, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kola Oluwawole, described the election as a show of shame, with thugs and security men openly working for the opposition All Progressives Congress.
Oluwawole said figures were brazenly doubled to favour the declared winner, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and expressed confidence that the stolen mandate would soon be retrieved.
The contribution of members at the plenary led to the passage of an eight-point resolution by the House.
The resolutions included that the election was heavily militarised with palpable fear on the faces of the electorate; that the security agencies compromised to the bidding of the APC; that the APC induced voters with money with connivance of the security agencies.
Others were ballot snatching by APC thugs, while PDP supporters were molested and chased out of the polling booths and collation centre in open glare of security

ADC Boasts Of 2m Members In Oyo, Vows To Dislodge APC

Chief Layiwola Olakojo, the Oyo State Coordinator of the African Democratic Congress, claims the party has two million members that will make it win the 2019 governorship election in the state over APC.

The ADC chieftain made this claim at a news conference on Tuesday in Ibadan.
However, Olakojo did not provide a register of the party or any proof of its membership to verify the claim.
He said the party would avoid the mistakes of both Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress in choosing its governorship candidate.
“We’re going to do everything within our power, with the help of God, to take control of Oyo government come 2019,” he said.

Olakojo also said the party would work hard to defeat the governing party at the centre and form the government next year, though he was uncertain about the party’s presidential candidate.
He said: “We are already on ground in Oyo State and you will see that in the whole of Oyo State today, ADC is the only party on ground.
“Others are nowhere to be found because of internal crisis.
“As far as we are concerned, we’re solidly on ground.
“Since April 28 that we held our town hall meeting, we decided to welcome the Unity Forum into our fold because they are very powerful segment of the APC in Oyo State.
“We make sure that we work together and I want to assure you that working together has made ADC a very strong political party.
“I want to assure you that by the special grace of God, we are doing everything possible to ensure that ADC controls the government of Oyo State next year.
“We will do everything within our plan, by the grace of God.
“We cannot do anything without God’s support.
“With the collective effort of our members and support of the good people of Oyo State, victory is ours.”

Dogara Urges FG To Try Steel Development

Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has reiterated his call on the Federal Government to prioritise steel development, saying it was the bedrock for the country’s development.

Dogara made the call at the ongoing “Open National Assembly Week’’ on Tuesday in Abuja.
He explained that the country had been losing revenue through importation of steel, even more that the government was focused on implementing projects that were dependent on steel.

Dogara said that such projects included the Mambilla Power Project and the Second Niger Bridge.
He also stressed the need for provision of mechanised tools and subsidies to farmers for proper agricultural revolution.

He said: “This is a pointer to any nation out there that is industrialised that doesn’t have a robust steel and aluminium sector.

“As we edge towards the Mambilla Power Project, we are utilising millions in tonnes of steel and if we don’t have a robust steel sector, all the money would go to China for instance, where we will be importing this steel from.

“The second Niger Bridge is there; it’s going to also consume millions of tonnes in steel. If care is not taken, China will also earn all the money.
“So, what are we doing as a government to ensure this doesn’t happen?
“Without the aluminium and steel sector, there cannot be industrialisation in Nigeria.
“The President of Ghana was speaking recently before an enlightened audience and he spoke of the need for Ghana to have a steel plant and they are starting soon.

“So, if care is not taken, Nigeria, the giant of Africa, will be importing steel from Ghana.”
The speaker also emphasised the need to revolutionalise the agricultural sector for the benefit of farmers and the country.

Dogara said: “To be very frank, if we don’t talk of mechanisation and subsidies for farmers, any talk about revolution in agriculture without mechanisation and subsidy is just rendering cheap talk.
“It will not be competitive and it will not work. I’m yet to see any developed country be it in America or …

10-Year Old Girl Launches Two Books

A 10 year old girl has launched 2 books yesterday in lagos.
It was a gathering of A lists authors, book aficionados and captains of industries at the Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos to launch two books written by 10-year old Munachi Mbonu.
The books, “Concealed” and “Chidubem: A child of destiny,” were products of leisurely exercises by the Year Six pupil of Grande Oakbridge Montessori School, Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos State, which she wrote to entertain her cousins until her mother, Ifeoma, urged her to seek a wider audience.
Mbonu said Concealed centered on a group of young friends in school learning what is valuable and love, adding that it was inspired by TV drama series, Friends, while Chidubem, which features a boy adapting to city life after relocating from the village, was influenced by her interactions with her cousins who had similar experience.
She said: “When the house is noisy, my Mummy tells us to go to our rooms and read and do book reviews. She doesn’t like us watching the TV for long periods. I started writing stories and giving them to my cousins to read.
“The first book was from TV drama shows; the second book was inspired by my cousins who moved from the village to Lagos. They did not like some things we liked here but were willing to learn new things and adapt.”
Mbonu’s mum said the girl started writing at seven.
She said: “She’s been writing from seven. I got her first laptop at five. So she would sketch some things and write about them. At age seven, she started writing. During the holidays I buy a lot of books and tell her to do a book review. She has written about five or six books.”
The elderly Mbonu said she thought the books were ripe for publishing because she enjoyed reading them as an adult.
She said: “When I read Chidumbem, it was really funny. I was laughing. I told her that older people

Cristiano Ronaldo was officially unveiled as a Juventus player on Monday evening following his staggering £105 million move from Real Madrid as reported by us last week.
The Portuguese superstar was unveiled in front of the world’s media at a press conference at the club’s Allianz Stadium in Turin.
Ronaldo was pictured shaking hands with new manager Massimiliano Allegri and several of his new teammates earlier in the day ahead of his official unveiling.
Ronaldo insisted he remains as ambitious as ever as he prepares to leave his mark on Juventus after completing his switch.
He told the press conference: “The nine years at Real Madrid were wonderful, but it’s a brand new step in my life, so I thank all the supporters with my heart.
“But I have to focus on this next step. I’m looking forward to playing. I’m very motivated, concentrated and focused on that.
“I’m going to try to show that I am a top player, as usual. I’m going to work hard in training. I don’t think I have to show what I am more than that – you know my stats.
“But I am very ambitious and I like challenges. I don’t like to stay in my comfort zone, I like to seize new challenges.
“After the experiences in Manchester and in Madrid, I’d like to mark the history of Juventus. I like challenges, again, and I hope everything will go very well.”

Anthony Joshua, Povetkin Fight September 22

Anthony Joshua will fight Alexander Povetkin at Wembley on September 22nd with his fourth stadium fight in succession bringing his total live audience for those spectaculars close to 350,000.
The confirmation that Joshua will fulfil his WBA mandatory defence against Povetkin will come as no surprise.
The 28-year-old has been in training while negotiations with Wilder stalled and he has now admitted he can’t wait to return to action.
“I can’t wait to get back in the ring. The end of March feels a long time ago now,” said Joshua, who beat Joseph Parker by unanimous points decision in Cardiff on March 31.
“Povetkin is a serious challenge that I will prepare meticulously for. He has serious pedigree and only a fool would underestimate what he brings to the table.
“Training hasn’t stopped for me, but the next 10 weeks ahead will be intense both mentally and physically. I will push myself to breaking point to make sure I am in peak condition for another huge night for British boxing at Wembley Stadium on September 22nd.”
Negotiations for the contest with Wilder to find the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis has been bogged down in retracted and bitter trans-Atlantic arguments.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insists that his $15 million (£11.3 million) offer to Wilder remains on the table for another Wembley date next April.
If that stand-off can eventually be resolved, Hearn revealed to Sportsmail that discussions are underway to enable a capacity in excess of 100,000.
That would eclipse the British record of 90,000 set by Joshua’s clash with Wladimir Klitschko at the stadium in 2017.
Hearn told Sportsmail: “The plan is Povetkin on the 22nd and then Wilder on the 13th (April) if he gets around to signing the contract.
“This is where Joshua wants to be and we are looking forward to two great nights of boxing, with 90,000 at Wembley in September and plans for a capacity of more than 100,000 for April.”

Club Owners Postpone NPFL Resumption Indefinitely

The lingering leadership dispute at the Nigeria Football Federation has caused Wednesday’s resumption of the NPFL to be postponed indefinitely, officials have disclosed.
Last month, the country’s league went on break for the World Cup in Russia.
“I am directed to bring to the notice of all members and clubs that the resumption date of the 2017/2018 season earlier scheduled for Wednesday 18th July 2018 has been put on hold,” read a statement signed by Executive Secretary of the Club Owners Association, Alloy Chukwuemeka.
The statement said: “Consequently the league resumption date has been postponed indefinitely until further notice.
“This postponement is as a result of some unresolved issues amongst the stakeholders within the football circle.”
Lobi Stars top the league table with 43 points from 24 matches, while Akwa United are two points behind.

Lady Drops Out Of Oxford Law School To Be An Instagram Star

Grace Beverley, 21 has shelved plans for a career in law to be an Instagram influencer instead.

She attended a £9,600-a-year nursery and no fewer than four public schools, then won a place at Oxford.

Under the name GraceFitUK, she already has more than a million followers online, where she shares exercise tips in tight sportswear. She uses social media to sell her own fitness products and endorses other brands with sponsored videos.

Miss Beverley went to Oxford after getting an A*, two A’s and one B at A-level at the prestigious St Paul’s Girls’ School in West London. This followed periods at three other private schools during a six-figure education that began at a bilingual nursery, La Petite Ecole Francaise, which now costs £9,600 per year.

Her father, Peter, runs his own consultancy business, while her mother, Victoria, is a senior curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

However, instead of pursuing a high-powered professional career like many of her peers, Miss Beverley hopes to emulate the likes of Zoella – the British social media superstar worth an estimated £2.5million.

Social media stars or ‘influencers’ earn money through partnerships with brands which pay them to advertise their products. They can make up to £100 per post if they have up to 10,000 followers, while for those with a fanbase of 100,000, the money can rise to £350 per post.

Miss Beverley, who already posts around four sponsored videos a month, has 366,000 followers on YouTube and 837,000 on Instagram – meaning she could be commanding considerably higher fees.

The Oxford music student is due to complete her degree at St Peter’s College next year, and had intended to take a professional qualification afterwards to begin a career in law in the City. However, she has now decided to pursue and focus on her online work instead.

The undergraduate began posting photos online during her A-levels to track her exercise progress, and even blocked ‘around 400’ people she knew from accessing the page out of embarrassment. ‘I wanted to get …

Antoine Griezmann’s ball-in was superb, left-footed and flat, Varane was close to winning it but instead it was England’s nemesis, Mario Mandzukic, who flicked a header into the top corner of his own net.

On 29th minute Croatia equalised through Ivan Perisic, a well deserved goal.

There was a free-kick and was nodded down, it bounced around just inside the area and Perisic then took a composed right-footed touch to bring the ball into his arc and then battered home left-footed, via a slight deflection.

France took the lead on 38 minute through a penalty, thanks to VAR. Griezmann easily converted the kick.

France made it 3-1 after Paul Pogba’s super strike on 59 minutes.

Pogba started it with a brilliant ball forwards into the run of Kylian Mbappe, he carried it downfield, and found Griezmann who then teed up Pogba. His shot was blocked but the ball came back to him, and Pogba clipped home left-footed past an unsighted goalkeeper.

Kylian Mbappe made it 4-1 for France on 65 minutes. With the goal, Mbappe becomes only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final after the great Pele.

Again, Danijel Subasic did not cover himself in glory in the Croatian goal, he took a step to his left and Mbappe drilled into the other corner from about 22 yards.

Mandzukic reduced the tally for Croatia on 69 minutes. Hugo Lloris was to blame. The Spurs keeper got a back-pass, tried to take a touch around Mandzukic and he tackled him and put the ball into an empty net.…
