Fayose To Fayemi: I Remain Governor Till October 16

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has told the Governor-elect of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, that he remains governor of the state until his tenure expires on October 16, 2018 and as such has the right to take actions in exercise of his duties, including employments, until that day.
Fayose said this in response to the warning issued by Fayemi over plans by the governor to embark on employments meant to cripple the incoming administration.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said: “We have watched with amusement the way and manner the beneficiaries of the Ekiti electoral robbery have been running their mouths in the last few days and we have opted to react to their advertisements of expertise in political comedy.
“The last time that we checked, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose was still the governor of Ekiti State and he remains the governor till October 16, 2018.
“Governor Fayose will carry out all the functions of his office till October 16 and if there is need to employ workers, he will do so legally and no one can prevent him.
“This is more so that the process of employing 2,000 workers had commenced even before the July 14 election.
“Therefore, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his team of desperately ignorant team should wait till October 16 before kicking off their usual anti people policies.
“Also, we advice Fayemi and his men to rather concentrate on how to defend the false electoral victory awarded to them by the powers that be in Abuja instead of this daily display of idiocy.”

Operatives of the Department of State Services, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Police in the early hours of Tuesday blocked the convoy of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, from moving out of his house, which also serves as his official residence.

In a personally signed letter, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had asked Saraki to report to the Intelligence Response Unit of the Police for further interrogation on the robbery incident in Offa, Kwara State.

But Saraki said the invitation by the police was a ploy to detain him in order to frustrate the defection of some Senators and members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress.
He said the defection had been perfected for Tuesday (today) and Wednesday.

In a related development, the operatives of the DSS, EFCC and police also stormed the house of the Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, in the early hours of Tuesday.
Sources told The Eagle Online that the policemen have restricted movement into and out of the house.

I encountered this beautiful young lady at the Nsawam Female Prison last week. She has been convicted for 2 years with a 5 months old pregnancy, and came into the prison with her one and a half year old son. Her offence? She tells me her “husband” brought in his girlfriend into the house and gave the lady her dress to wear.

She couldn’t believe what was unfolding in her eyes and could not contain the humiliation. She confronted the lady and a fight ensued. In the course of the struggle, she hit the lady with a sandals she laid hands on and was jailed for assault. Since coming to prison, this so-called husband has never visited her.

My appeal is for some of our judges to fully consider the overall context of events before handing down sentences. I have a feeling they are sometimes misled by the police? For how long will the Alternative Sentencing Bill which could possibly prescribe community sentences in such cases, continue to gather dust in Parliament?

Shouldn’t pregnant women be given suspended sentences instead? I simply don’t understand why the Criminal Offences Act 1960 which obviously needs a review after so many years of usage continue to dictate the pace. We are all not safe!

She has a fine of 1400 Ghs to pay and another 2000 for the injuries caused to her attacker, making it 3400 Ghs in all to secure her …

Ozil Quits International Duty

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he has retired from international duty, citing “disrespect” from within the German Football Federation.
Ozil, 29, earned 92 caps for his country and was part of the team that won the 2014 World Cup.
However he drew criticism at home after he met with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in May.
He and Ilkay Gundogan – a team mate also of Turkish descent who likewise posed with Erdogan – were jeered in warm-up games before the World Cup in Russia.
At the height of the row Ozil made no comment on his meeting in London with Erdogan, an outspoken critic of Germany, who was campaigning for re-election at the time.

He broke his silence in a string of statements on Twitter on Sunday with the third and final of these confirming his retirement.
Oil tweeted: “The treatment I have received from the DFB & many others makes me no longer want to wear the German national team shirt. I feel unwanted & think that what I have achieved since my international debut in 2009 has been forgotten.
“It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that because of recent events, I will no longer be playing for Germany at international level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect.
“I used to wear the German shirt with such pride and excitement, but now I don’t. This decision has been extremely difficult to make because I have always given everything for my teammates, the coaching staff and the good people of Germany.
“But when high-ranking DFB officials treat me as they did, disrespect my Turkish roots and selfishly turn me into political propaganda, then enough is enough. That is not why I play football, and I will not sit back and do nothing about it. Racism should never, ever be accepted.”

Hamilton Wins German Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton claimed one of the most remarkable victories of his Formula One career after his championship rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out from the lead in the German Grand Prix.
Hamilton started only 14th after a mechanical failure in qualifying, but took the chequered flag at Hockenheim following a dramatic conclusion sparked by a rain shower, and Vettel’s jaw-droppingcrash.
Both Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen pitted for new tyres after the safety car was deployed following Vettel’s costly accident.
Hamilton stayed on track to assume the lead, and when the race was back under way with 10 laps to run, the Englishman held off team-mate Bottas to seal a famous victory.
The result means Hamilton now sits 17 points clear of Vettel at the halfway point of the season and the four-time winner credited the elements with helping him secure a vital victory this afternoon.
“It was so tough out there, conditions were perfect for business time,” Hamilton said.
“When it rained, I knew that I would have a good position but you never knew what would happen after the safety car.
“The other guys behind had the new tyres on but I’m just so grateful for the hard work the team has done and I hope this justifies their belief in me.
“For those who don’t know me, now you do.”
