Anthony Joshua Wants To ‘Outskill’ Oleksandr Usyk – Says Eddie Hearn

Anthony Joshua wants to beat challenger Oleksandr Usyk with his technical skills rather than relying on his superior size when they meet in the headliner this month on September 25th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in London, England.

Joshua’s technical skills must be up to par for his fight with Usyk (18-0, 13 KOs) because the Ukrainian fighter is too talented for AJ to run over like a truck using his size alone to win. It may prove to be difficult for Joshua to ‘out-skill’ Usyk the way that Hearn wants him to because he’s always been technically flawed.

We’ve seen in the past that Joshua struggle with cardio issues when he’s tried for knockouts. He got away with gassing out against Dillian Whyte, Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

In Joshua’s loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. in their first fight in June 2019, he was exhausted after hurting the American. Ruiz Jr. took advantage of it and dropped him.

Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs) is leaning down slightly, but not as much as some boxing fans think.

According to Hearn, Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs) will weigh close to the same amount he did for his second fight with Andy Ruiz Jr. in December 2019 and his last title defense against Kubrat Pulev in 2021.

Usyk Best-Skilled Fighter Joshua Has Faced

“Skill wise, he’s definitely the best fighter he’s faced,” said Eddie Hearn to about Usyk being the best technical fighter Joshua will have faced.

“I mean, he’s a pound-for-pound top five fighter. Powerwise in the division, he’s [Joshua] fought some big punchers. Dillian Whyte, Klitschko, Andy Ruiz as well and many others.

“[Kubrat] Pulev can punch as well. I don’t think Usyk carries the power of those guys, but he still carries power. It can be awkward this fight. It can be tricky.

“I don’t think Joshua buys into the ‘Too big, too strong.’ He doesn’t want to rely on his size in this fight. He wants to not only out-skill Usyk, but he wants to be able to compete with …

Jake Paul defeats Tyron Woodley via split decision to extend winning streak in his toughest fight yet

YouTuber-turned-boxer stays undefeated in his fourth fight but is unable to get the knockout for the first time; Jake Paul came through adversity when he took a big right hand from Tyron Woodley. The YouTuber-turned-boxer faced real adversity for the first time since becoming a boxer, taking a solid right hand which rocked him against the ropes, but the referee did not score a knock-down against him. His controversial crossover into boxing remains undefeated in a fourth fight despite not finding a knockout for the first time. Paul had not previously been to the end of the second round in any of his previous fights but it was quickly evident that Woodley, a former UFC champion albeit making his boxing debut, would not go down as quickly. Paul was forced to display more of his skills over a longer period for the first time, and he did land a counter left hook then an uppercut in an impressive third round. Paul’s only major concern came in the fourth when a right hand clubbed against the side of his head and staggered him, and it seemed he was only kept on his feet by the middle rope.

The judges scored the fight 77-75, 75-77, 78-74 to the social media sensation who was fighting in his home city. His mother was already celebrating his victory in the ring.

“He has been boxing, striking, for 20 years. I’ve been doing it for three years,” said Paul on BT Sport Box Office.

“It was tougher than I expected. He is a tough opponent. He put up a good fight.

“He hit me with one real shot in the whole fight.”

He could next fight Tommy Fury, who beat Anthony Taylor on the undercard.

‘Get a tattoo and we will rematch!”

Manny Pacquiao on Josh Taylor: ‘I have no problem to fight’ the undisputed champion from Scotland

The legendary Pacquiao returns to the ring against Yordenis Ugas with the WBA ‘super’ welterweight title at stake from 2am on Sunday morning. Taylor idolises the Filipino star, even naming his dog ‘Pacman’, and his breakthrough as undisputed super-lightweight champion has caught his hero’s attention.

When asked about the prospect of facing Taylor, Pacquiao said: “I have no problem to fight anybody, as long as it is 147lbs [at welterweight].

“As long as I am still in boxing, I can fight anybody.

“This is why I chose Errol Spence Jr [his original opponent who withdrew injured and was replaced by Ugas], because I want to fight the best.

“Anytime, I can fight anybody.”

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach previously said: “That fight can happen, for sure.”

Taylor, who is promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank, previously said: “How many people can say they shared a ring with their hero and beat them? Not many.

“He’s funny, he sings, he puts on a Scottish accent, he’s a people’s champion, a really nice person, he gives money to feed people.

“He’s an absolute gentleman and his fighting style is ferocious – a southpaw with fast hands who can fight like hell.”

Taylor is first expected to defend his titles in a homecoming fight in Scotland later this year against Jack Catterall.

Pacquiao, who famously knocked out Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas, he wants to fight in the UK.

“I hope that one day I could have a fight there,” he said.

He revealed that he “almost” finalized a deal to face Amir Khan, his former sparring partner.

“Fighting in the ring, inside the ring is different than training,” said Pacquiao. “Different than sparring or anything. Big difference.”…

Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh wins his first fight via TKO

Nico Ali Walsh after one-round win: “It seems like a lot of pressure but, to me, he’s just my grandfather. To the crowd he is the greatest fighter who ever lived and maybe the greatest person. To me? He’s the greatest grandfather!”

Ali Walsh clocked his opponent Jordan Weeks with a right hand to knock him down inside 90 seconds of the opening bell.

He landed the same punch immediately as Weeks got back to his feet, again badly hurting his foe.

Ali Walsh sensed the early stoppage and unloaded a barrage of punches, forcing the referee to intervene with less than two minutes of the first round gone. His mother Rasheda, the second-oldest of Ali’s nine children, celebrated at ringside as Ali Walsh posed in a similar way to his legendary grandfather after winning.

In his corner was Sugarhill Steward, who also trains Tyson Fury.

Ali Walsh said about his grandfather after winning: “I’ve been thinking about him so much. I miss him.

“It seems like a lot of pressure but, to me, he’s just my grandfather. To the crowd he is the greatest fighter who ever lived and maybe the greatest person.

“To me? He’s the greatest grandfather!”…

David Haye: Former world heavyweight champion to return to ring against Joe Fournier next month

David Haye is a former world cruiserweight and heavyweight champion; 40-year-old last fought in 2018 when he was beaten by Tony Bellew; Haye to make return against Joe Fournier at the Staples Center, Los Angeles on September 11. Haye has not fought since losing his second consecutive fight to Tony Bellew in 2018 and had most recently been managing his former rival Derek Chisora.Haye has not fought since losing his second consecutive fight to Tony Bellew in 2018 and had most recently been managing his former rival Derek Chisora.

However, the former world heavyweight champion has been tempted back into the ring by Fournier, with the pair agreeing to an eight-round heavyweight fight at the Staples Center, Los Angeles on September 11.

“I was the heavyweight champion of the world just 10 years ago. I’m only 40. Joe is delusional. Champions are born not bought.”

The highlight of Haye’s career came in 2009 when he won the WBA world heavyweight title by beating Nikolai Valuev.

Two years earlier, the Briton became world champion at cruiserweight with a win against Jean-Marc Mormeck.

While Haye retired with a 28-4 record, Fournier – known as ‘The Billionaire’ after making his fortune in the fitness and nightclub industries – has nine wins to his name after making his professional debut in 2015.

The 38-year-old was encouraged to take up boxing by Haye and was even signed to his opponent’s Hayemaker label.

Fournier had five years out of the ring before making his return on the Jake Paul-Ben Askren undercard in April, when he beat musician Reykon.

But despite their vastly different boxing pedigrees, Fournier said: “I will shock the world and knockout David Haye.…

Pat McCormack insists he and twin Luke will become world champions as pro boxers after Olympic adventure

Pat McCormack: “Olympic medalists make very, very good pros so I’m looking forward to what the future brings. I’ve waited a long time to turn professional. With Covid-19 knocking back the Olympics, I should have been pro by now. I feel like my apprenticeship is done.” Pat McCormack brought home a silver medal as part of Team GB’s boxers’ record six-medal haul from Tokyo 2020.

“It will take a few years to build into, but if you’re not aiming for a world title then there’s no pointing being in the game.”

He reflected on the professional successes of the 2016 Olympians: “They have done unbelievably. Lawrence Okolie is world champion which couldn’t be any better. Joshua Buatsi is pushing on for a world title.

McCormack fell short of Olympic gold in the welterweight final against the veteran Cuban Roniel Iglesias, who became a back-to-back gold medalist and was competing at his fourth Games.

“It’s a bit disappointing that it wasn’t a gold medal,” he said. “That’s what I came for. Now that the dust has settled, I am proud of it.

“I’ve medaled at the World Championships, European Championships, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.

“This was the last medal on the list and I’m ready for what’s next.

“I felt the pressure. I stayed on since Rio so I knew that I’d have to get a medal or it would have been a waste of five years.”

His twin brother Luke was also eliminated by a brilliant Cuban, Andy Cruz, in the lightweight round of 16.

Pat said about Luke: “His dream was never to go to the Olympics. But I was going so he thought: ‘I may as well go!’

“His dream was always to be a professional world champion.

“He’s got a great style for the pros – he has good punching power.

“He will be a world champion.…

Anthony Joshua vows not to be affected by absence of trainer Rob McCracken ahead of Oleksandr Usyk Clash

Anthony Joshua ahead of fight with Oleksandr Usyk: “He is changing his team because people have a wealth of knowledge. It’s been good having a wider team and working collectively.”

Joshua defends his IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight championships against Usyk on September 25, live on Sky Sports Box Office, meaning McCracken will miss a portion of the training camp.

“Everyone brings something different to the table.

“Usyk will bring in Vasiliy Lomachenko’s dad. He works with Russ Anber. I have a list of different nutritionists and strength and conditioning coaches that he will bring in for this fight. “He is changing his team because people have a wealth of knowledge. “It’s been good having a wider team and working collectively.…

Ben Whittaker and Pat McCormack wins secure boxing medals

Whittaker edged a 3-2 split decision win against Brazil’s Keno Machado to reach the light-heavyweight last four.

McCormack, meanwhile, beat Uzbekistan’s Bobo Baturov via a 4-1 split decision to reach the welterweight semi-final, where he faces Ireland’s Aidan Walsh.

It means both Britons will leave Tokyo with at least a bronze medal.

There could be more medals in boxing for Britain, with Caroline Dubois one win away from securing one of them after a split-decision win against USA’s Rashida Ellis to reach the women’s lightweight quarter-finals.

Whittaker, from West Bromwich, will return to the ring on Sunday to fight for a place in the gold medal round.

“It was difficult, you never want to look too far ahead but I can’t help myself,” Whittaker Said.

“The people on my side of the draw are big swingers – I’m a confident, arrogant lad but I won’t lie – when I came out my belly was doing flips, my legs were gone, but as soon as the bell went it went away.

“It doesn’t matter if it was split or unanimous – a win’s a win.”

Whittaker now has his sights set on returning home with an Olympic title, adding: “I want to come back with the gold medal and become the mayor of Wolverhampton and call all the shots.”

Caroline Dubois inspired by her heavyweight brother Daniel Dubois – but can she be even better?

Usually when a Dubois sibling fights, there is stony confidence. An ice cold demeanor.

But recently things were so different on the most unusual night for the fighting family – when Caroline and her older brother Daniel were both battling in crunch fights just hours apart. “It was strange! I definitely did not like it,” Caroline said. It is not uncommon for fighters to feel more nerves when their closest confidantes step into the ring but Caroline and Daniel’s high-stakes fights were particularly testing.

Caroline, just 20, was at an Olympic qualifier in Paris on June 5 with a place at Tokyo 2020 up for grabs, having already beaten a far more experienced rival.

Daniel, a couple of hours later, was making his heavyweight return in London against Bogdan Dinu in his comeback from a broken eye socket. Caroline’s Olympic quest has continued through her older brother’s painstaking recovery from the injury inflicted in his first career loss to Joe Joyce. She has seen how things can go wrong but has persevered.

“Definitely when he gets in the ring,” she smiles through obvious torment when asked if it is more nerve-wracking to watch a loved one strap on the gloves.

Caroline grimaces when thinking about Daniel’s battles: “So many big blows are thrown. One of them will land.

“It’s horrible, horrible.”

Caroline would normally have been present with her brother before his fights but, last month, was forced into unusual solitude from him when her Olympic qualifier fell on the same day.

“You have to focus on yourself so I felt bad that my brother was boxing,” she says.

“Normally I’m always there around him, giving all my attention and focus to him.

“But I had to be more selfish – I had to totally forget about him and I didn’t like that.

“It was stressful.”

A day earlier Caroline defeated Mira Potkonen of Finland, who is twice her age and was the bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympics. Before Daniel’s fight in London, Caroline confirmed her spot on Team …

Joe Joyce has sights set on Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury ahead of fight with Carlos Takam

“I’ve got a big test in Carlos Takam so I won’t look too far ahead because this is a tough fight,” Joe Joyce said. “I need to beat Takam up to make a statement so I can go on to win a world title.”

Joyce has been confirmed as the next WBO mandatory challenger after Oleksandr Usyk, the current incumbent, challenges world champion Anthony Joshua on September 25, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Unbeaten Joyce would then receive a shot at the belt next year.

“I’ve got a big test in Takam so I won’t look too far ahead because this is a tough fight,” he said. “Takam gives it his all and he’s a hard fight. It might take a few rounds, it might take all the rounds, but I will get the job done then cruise on to a world title.”

Joyce displayed his height advantage over the compact veteran Takam during a steely face-off on Thursday.

Cameroon-born Takam has previously gone 10 rounds with Joshua and eight rounds with Derek Chisora.

Joyce’s manager Sam Jones teased he had covertly been sent footage of Takam sparring from within his camp.

“I had someone show me the footage,” Jones told Takam.

“I’ve watched all your spars, I know the game plan.”

Takam hit back: “Because you are scared.”

Takam replied Francis Ngannou, the UFC heavyweight champion, had tipped him off that Joyce is “not a technical boxer”.

Jones said: “Carlos will come forwards, he is a decent boxer, he is tough and strong. He goes in with the head.

“[Joyce] will more spiteful on Saturday.”

Takam, now 40 and a veteran of 45 fights, insisted: “I am the best Takam you have seen, the best ever.”

His promoter Joe De Guardia previously told Sky Sports: “While a knockout over a 6’6″ 260 lb giant like Joe Joyce may seem unlikely, Carlos has the strength, tools, experience and foundation to piece together a performance that can very well lead to a sensational KO.”…

Deontay Wilder’s team ‘definitely believe’ he can regain WBC heavyweight title with a victory over Tyson Fury

Wilder vs Fury 3 has received a new date of October 9 in Las Vegas after a Covid-19 outbreak in the British star’s training camp caused the postponement of this month’s fight.  The American was stopped by Fury in the seventh round of their WBC title fight in February 2020, but co-manager Shelly Finkel expects Wilder to avenge this loss with an emphatic victory.

“I definitely believe that Deontay is going to win his title back by knocking out Tyson Fury,” Finkel Said.

Wilder has revamped his training team with the addition of Malik Scott, who has taken a lead role in overseeing tactics, and recently told Sky Sports how he identified vulnerabilities in Fury

“They both have the power to hurt each other,” said Scott. “The difference is that Deontay has the power to knock you out.

“Fury is undefeated but is vulnerable. That won’t make sense to most humans.

“He is an unbeaten fighter but is very beatable. He gives you an opportunity to hit him.

“It is our job to take advantage of those opportunities. I believe Deontay will, and I believe he will knock Fury out in the trilogy.”

Anthony Joshua wants to face the winner of Fury vs Wilder 3, if he retains his WBA, WBO and IBF titles in a fight against Oleksandr Usyk, which is expected to be held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 25.

Joshua has told Sky Sports: “I will fight them all. Wilder is just another one in the pecking order, no problem.”

Wilder’s team remain open to discussing an undisputed world title fight against Joshua.

“Always have [wanted to make the Joshua fight],” Finkel said last month. “Deontay wants to be the undisputed champion, but first he has to take out Fury.”…

Hughie Fury avoided by ‘high-profile’ heavyweights who are more interested in becoming a ‘celebrity than a boxer’, says Peter Fury

The 26-year-old contender has been absent from the ring since he sealed a dominant points win over Mariusz Wach, despite suffering a gruesome cut in their December fight. Peter Fury has admitted that his son has lost respect for some of his big-name rivals after they turned down fight offers.

“Everybody realises he’s a lot better than what people say he is, so that’s my opinion,” Peter Fury told Sky Sports.

“Let me tell you, we’ve offered some high-profile people fights with Hughie – and they’ve looked up and said they’ll fight anyone. But when Hughie is mentioned, they don’t want to fight him, so that’s where it’s at.

“I don’t want to mention any names, but that’s where it is. We’ll find him an opponent. He’ll be fighting in September anyway.

“Absolutely [he’s lost respect]. Boxing is becoming a bit of a soap opera. That real fighting culture, there’s only so many around today. A lot of them, they are more into social media and being a celebrity than a boxer.”

Andy Ruiz Jr stood up Joshua’s power, but Otto Wallin can KO him – Salita

The Swedish heavyweight is eager to secure a big-name fight after his career-best win over Dominic Breazeale, a dominant points victory in February. “Otto and Andy gave the toughest challenge to two of the current world heavyweight champions,” promoter Dmitriy Salita hopes that Otto Wallin can secure a high stakes showdown with rival contender Andy Ruiz Jr.

Former unified champion Ruiz Jr sealed a unanimous decision win over Chris Arreola in May, and Salita hopes to guide his fighter Wallin into a high stakes showdown with the rival contender.

“Beating Breazeale the way he [Wallin] did shows how much he has improved since the Fury fight,” Salita said. “I am sure his size, skills and devotion to his craft is making world class fighters think twice about sharing the ring with him.

“Otto and Andy gave the toughest challenge to two of the current world heavyweight champions. It makes sense for them to fight, especially if Tyson Fury fights Anthony Joshua [in and undisputed world title fight].” Wallin emerged with credit from his only defeat, a bloody decision loss to Fury in September 2019, while Ruiz Jr stopped Anthony Joshua in June 2019, only to lose his world titles in an immediate rematch in December of that year.

Asked if Wallin could win by knockout, Salita said: “Definitely and I believe he has the skills, power and size to do it!”

Wallin has previously told Sky Sports that he hopes to earn a second fight with Fury, who went on to stop Deontay Wilder in his next fight to claim the WBC belt.

“My dream is to fight and win the world title so for right now I just have to keep fighting and improving so when I get the shot I’ll be ready to grab it with both hands,” said Wallin.

“The Tyson Fury rematch is not my top priority but I truly hope I get another shot at him.

“I just have to keep fighting and winning and show that I’m worthy of a rematch and when …

Tyson Fury must endure a ‘very frustrating’ wait for trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder which is set to be rescheduled in October

“Really frustrating for Tyson. By the time he gets into the ring, he will have been out for nearly 20 months,” promoter Frank Warren reflects on the postponement of Tyson Fury’s third fight against Deontay Wilder

Britain’s WBC heavyweight champion was due to face Wilder in Las Vegas on July 24, but a Covid-19 outbreak in Fury’s training camp caused the postponement of their trilogy fight. Frank Warren’s, Fury’s UK promoter, confirmed the 32-year-old tested positive for Covid-19 and expects a new date to be finalized.

“It’s looking some time in October, which is a great shame it’s been postponed, but it is what it is,” Warren told BT Sport.

“Unfortunately, they in the camp and himself got tested positive for Covid-19. There’s nothing we can do about it.

“It’s the times we live in, so the fight is postponed. Pushed back.

“Very frustrating. Really frustrating for Tyson. By the time he gets into the ring, he will have been out for nearly 20 months. That’s a long, long time.”

Dillian Whyte has expressed his desire to fight Wilder instead of Fury and the WBC ‘interim’ champion called on the governing body to promote him to full WBC heavyweight champion. “When stuff like this happens and fights fall through and the champion is injured or can’t fight, or for whatever reason can’t defend the title, then the interim champion steps up.

“Make me world champion, I’ll fight Wilder as a world champion, and the winner of that fights Tyson Fury, and the winner of that fights Anthony Joshua for the undisputed.

“That is where everything is solved with one action.”…

Akpejiori adds a ruthless knockout win to his record after calling for a fight with Fury

“My goal is to have the heavyweight belts in my hand. Once I’ve accomplished that, everything else will fall in place,” Nigeria’s Raphael Akpejiori adds another knockout win on his pursuit of a world title.

The unbeaten Nigerian delivered another display of his destructive power, stopping Steven Lyons in the opening round in Miami on Saturday night. Akpejiori has knocked out all 12 of his opponents inside two rounds and has told Sky Sports that he would welcome a fight against Fury or top contender Dillian Whyte. “If I was going to name a dream fight for me in the next year, I would say Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte,” Akpejiori told Sky Sports.

“Those are two guys I know I can step in the ring with and beat both of them.

“But my goal is to have the heavyweight belts in my hand. Once I’ve accomplished that, everything else will fall in place.”

Errol Spence Is A ‘Basic Fighter,’ Pacquiao Can Win – Says Robert Garcia

Trainer Robert Garcia says he sees Errol Spence Jr as a “basic” fighter and that he wouldn’t be surprised if Pacquiao beats him when the two meet on August 21st.

Interestingly, Robert says Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) is the bigger puncher than Spence (27-0, 21 KOs). Robert isn’t the only one that believes that Pacquiao is the harder puncher.

What makes that hard to believe is the absence of knockouts for Pacquiao in the last twelve years. The last time Pacquiao scored a knockout was in 2009, and that was a questionable 12th round stoppage against Miguel Cotto.

The referee Kenny Bayless halted the fight while Cotto was still fighting back, and a lot of boxing fans felt that it shouldn’t have been stopped.

Robert’s little brother Mikey Garcia found out the hard way what it’s like to be on the receiving end of Spence’s shots when he lost a wide 12 round unanimous decision.

“He’s [Spence] a basic fighter, you know? He does everything correctly,” said Robert Garcia to Fight hype. “He’s not a flashy guy, he doesn’t look like some of those guys where you’re like ‘wow, did you see that?’

Even if Spence is basic, he picks the right spots to land his shots to score stoppages. It’s been a while, though, since Errol knocked anyone out, but it’s possible he’ll get a stoppage against Manny.

What makes Pacquiao’s shots look harder than they are is the speed with which he throws them.

Also, the punch placement and timing that Pacquiao has magnifies the impact. Who can forget the knockout shot Pacquiao hit Ricky Hatton with in the second round of their fight in

“I would probably say the power, probably go with Pacquiao. I probably go with Pacquiao,” said Robert Garcia.

It’s not the power; it’s more the blinding hand speed and the combinations that make Pacquiao so hard to deal with. If Spence can’t track all the incoming shots, he could get taken out by Manny.

If Spence starts throwing power shots …

Tyson Fury sharpening skills with ‘next great heavyweight champion’ Jared Anderson says promoter Bob Arum

Tyson Fury said to me after the Deontay Wilder fight that he attributes a great deal of his success to sparring with Jared Anderson,” promoter Bob Arum says American contender is a future heavyweight king. Fury will defend his WBC championship in a trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas on July 24 and has again recruited the talented Anderson as a sparring partner.

“We have a guy who Tyson tells me, and a lot of people tell me, will be the next great heavyweight champion,” Top Rank promoter Arum told Sky Sports about Anderson.

“The kid has had nine fights now.

“Talk to Tyson – he gives Tyson hell when they work out. He’s a great sparring partner. “Tyson said to me after the Wilder fight that he attributes a great deal of his success to sparring with Anderson.”

Anthony Joshua’s victory has been questioned by his Italian opponent Roberto Cammarelle

“Regardless of any move by Joshua, the crowd was cheering even if it was a miss, and I think it certainly influenced the final result”; Roberto Cammarelle reflects on defeat by Anthony Joshua in the London 2012 Olympic final

Roberto Cammarelle says he “can’t understand” how Anthony Joshua was awarded victory against him in the 2012 Olympic final and believes the crowd “influenced the judges”

Italy’s 2008 Olympic champion fought Joshua for the super-heavyweight gold medal at the London Games, suffering a defeat by countback after the scores were tied at 18-18 following their three-round bout.

But Cammarelle, who extended a 6-5 lead to 13-10 before the final round, has questioned how Joshua closed the deficit.

“As far as I can remember, I think I managed to fight exceptionally well during the two rounds,” Cammarelle told Sky Sports.

“The last round, he did not fight to overcome me. He was just sort of managing the fight. Having an equal number of points, an equal score, I can’t understand [how] I didn’t win.

“I thought I was managing the advantage I had managed to win over the first round.

“I’ve always had great physical issues. My physical preparation had only started a month before the Olympics. The fact that the semi-final was so close to the final certainly weakened my body.

Aussie ‘Tower of Terror’ could be one fight away from AJ title shot

Three-time Australian heavyweight champion Demsey McKean is reportedly being considered for a fight that would hand him a shot at British megastar Anthony Joshua. reports that ‘The Tower of Terror’ McKean is in talks to fight against Filip Hrgovic in an IBF final eliminator fight in August.

The winner would be given a guaranteed fight against IBF, WBA and WBO champion Joshua.

On Wednesday, McKean posted to his Instagram: “Next fight soon to be locked in”.

America’s Michael Hunter pulled out of talks to fight Hrgovic which has opened the door to the Queenslander, according to Sky Sports.

Fight promoter Kalle Sauerland told the publication: “We’re in discussions with a number of names

“The Australian is on the list. Obviously we look at the rankings. It’s very, very tough.

“We are in talks with a number of opponents. Not just Mr McKean, a number of opponents, so I have to keep my mouth a little bit schtum on this, but you’ll all be very happy when it’s solved.”

Sauerland said an opponent is “fully expected” to be locked in within the next seven days.
