9 Nigerian Artists featured in British tv series ‘Sex Education’ soundtrack.

In sex education’s third season, released on the 17th of September 2021, saw soundtrack contributions by several artists. Among the rock and punk rhythms of Ezra Furman and The harpoons, Afrobeat is not left out.

In the fourth and sixth episode, records by Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa savage, Skales, Fela Kuti, Davido, Burna boy, Prince Nico Mbarga, and Odunsi the engine are featured making the wedding scenes, and general Nigerian experience authentic and memorable.

1. Shake body by Skales: This is played in season three, episode three, as Eric shows off energetic dance moves in front of a front mirror.

2. Oyejo by Fela Kuti: what’s an afrobeat compilation without its pioneer. Fela Kuti’s classic ‘Oyejo’ was played in the sixth episode when Eric Effiong and his family arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, from Mordale, England.

3. Joro by Wizkid: 2019’s party jam ‘Joro’ also had its moment in episode six while Eric and his new love interest ‘Oba’ thrilled themselves till dawn.

4. Fall by Davido: Currently sitting on two hundred million views and counting, its views are expected to rise after being the opener to the exclusive wedding reception of a Nigerian wedding in a British teen drama. It was played when Eric left the reception with Oba and boarded a taxi to an undisclosed location.

5. Anybody by Burna boy: The instrumental beat of ‘Anybody’, a track included in his grammy-nominated ‘African Giant’ album, was also played at the wedding reception in episode six.

6. Sweet mother by Prince Nico Mbarga: ‘Sweet Mother’ included in a British drama proves its evergreen nature since its release in 1976. It was played in episode six while Eric prepared for the wedding in the presence of his mother.

As WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram return, Zuckerberg loses $6b

Facebook founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth has reduced by more than $6 billion in a few hours, knocking him down a notch on the list of the world’s richest people.

The drastic reduction in his net worth was largely due to a revelation by a whistleblower and also outages that affected Facebook Inc’s flagship products.

The flagship products include Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

According to a report by Yahoo Finance, a selloff sent the social-media giant’s stock plummeting 4.9 per cent on Monday, adding to a drop of about 15 per cent since mid-September. The stock slide on Monday sent Zuckerberg’s worth down to $121.6 billion, dropping him below Bill Gates to No. 5 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

He’s down from almost $140 billion in a matter of weeks, according to the index.

On September 13, the Wall Street Journal began publishing a series of stories based on a cache of internal documents, revealing that Facebook knew about a wide range of problems with its products — such as Instagram’s harm to teenage girls’ mental health and misinformation about the January 6 Capitol riots — while downplaying the issues in public.

The reports have drawn the attention of government officials.

And on Monday the whistleblower revealed herself.

In an explosive 60 Minutes interview that aired in the United States on Sunday, data scientist, Frances Haugen, a former employee in Facebook’s civic integrity unit, revealed that she was the source of the internal documents and research showing the company knew of the harmful effects caused by its platforms.

According to DW, the company’s own findings include knowledge of the harms Instagram caused teen girls’ body image perceptions and a two-tier system of penalties for misuse of its platforms, one for celebrities and the other for the public.

“I’ve seen a bunch of social networks and it was substantially worse at Facebook than what I had seen before,” Haugen told “60 Minutes.”

The Fugees are set to visit Nigeria

On September 21, 2021, Grammy-winning Hip-Hop/R&B supergroup, The Fugees announced an international reunion tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their landmark 1996 album The Score.

This will bring the group, consisting of Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel together for the first time in 15 years. Despite only releasing two albums together, their legacy is filled with classic records, which have become a staple for sampling in Hip-Hop.

Their tour, which will be produced by Live Nation will visit 12 locations, including Lagos, Nigeria – on an unannounced date – and Ghana, on December 18, 2021.

As part of the tour, then will make stops in New York, California, Georgia, London, Paris and more.

After the group went on their first hiatus, Ms. Lauryn Hill went on an incredible early solo run, which produced the classic album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which won five Grammy awards in one 1999 night.

Wyclef Jean has also become a cultural staple, with several platinum records, and strong affiliations to Nigeria.

Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ set to become the first Nigerian record to hit platinum in the US

On September 21, 2021, Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar, Wizkid’s groundbreaking Billboard Hot 100 hit, ‘Essence’ was rumored to have hit one million in sales equivalent.

This news was broken by the reliable Chart Data. This comes barely two weeks after the record was certified Gold in the US, becoming Wizkid’s second Gold record after ‘Come Closer’ featuring Drake. With this milestone, ‘Essence’ becomes the first Nigerian song to go platinum in the US.

After it fell last week, ‘Essence’ is back to No. 17 on the charts. Recently, Nigeria’s premier music chart publication, Turntable Charts also reported that ‘Essence’ has been the third biggest Nigerian song of 2021, so far.

Chris Rock tests positive for Covid-19

American comedian Chris Rock has tested positive for COVID-19 and is urging his followers to get vaccinated.

The comedian took to his Twitter page on Sunday, September 19, 2021, where he revealed his symptoms.

“Hey guys I just found out I have COVID, trust me you don’t want this. Get vaccinated,” he tweeted.

Rock, 56, has been vocal in the fight against COVID throughout the pandemic—and even surprised New Yorkers by appearing at one of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s press conferences to urge mask-wearing.

Former army sniper kills 4, including infant, in Florida shooting spree

A former sniper in the US military went on a shooting spree in central Florida, killing four people, including an infant boy in his mother’s arms, officials said Sunday.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Bryan Riley, shot and killed a 40-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and her three-month-old son in a residential area in Polk County, Florida, said County Sheriff Grady Judd. The fourth victim was the child’s 62-year-old grandmother.

Riley, who was wearing full body armor, also wounded an 11-year-old girl before surrendering himself to the police following an intense gunfight, Judd said.

Riley, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, told the police he was a “survivalist” and that he had been taking methamphetamine.

The suspect also told the police, without elaborating, “You know why I did this,” according to a statement from Judd published on social media.

Riley was wounded in the gunfight and was rushed to a local hospital, where he again tried to attack police officers and had to be sedated.

After he received medical help, the suspect was transferred to a local jail.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the attack, Judd said. An investigation is underway.…

Moamar Gaddafi’s son Saadi released from prison 10 years after Libyan dictator’s downfall

The son of former Libyan dictator Moamar Gaddafi has been released from prison, one decade on from the uprising that toppled his father’s regime.

Saadi Gaddafi had been in detention in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, since 2014 following his extradition from neighbouring Niger.

Local media reported the younger Gaddafi was released after being acquitted of charges dating back to the uprising against his father’s rule.

At the time of the 2011 revolt, which was part of the broader Arab Spring movement, Saadi Gaddafi headed a special forces brigade that was involved in the crackdown on protesters and rebels.

Prime Minister-designate Abdul Hamid Dbeibah said in a Twitter post early on Monday that Saadi Gaddafi had been released in compliance with a previous court order.

Mohamed Hamouda, a spokesman for Libya’s transitional government, said Saadi Gaddafi walked free from Tripoli’s al-Hadaba prison, where many former regime officials are being held pending trial, mostly in connection with the crackdown on the 2011 uprising that toppled the longtime ruler and led to his killing.

Mr Hamouda did not elaborate on the circumstances of the release.

Saadi Gaddafi was smuggled across the desert to Niger in 2011 just as his father’s regime was crumbling.

But he was extradited in March 2014 after he, as well as colleagues who accompanied him, “failed to respect the conditions of his stay in Niger”, the West African nation’s government said at the time.

Following his release, he travelled to Turkey, according to the al-Marsad news website.

During his father’s rule, Saadi Gaddafi was known for his lavish lifestyle and he treated Libya’s soccer league as his personal fiefdom.

He played for several Libyan teams and for an Italian team until he failed a drug test. At various times, he headed Libya’s soccer federation and its national team.

In one case, security forces opened fire on fans at a 1996 match Saadi Gaddafi attended, killing a number of people in murky circumstances.

Wizkid joins Justin Bieber on stage at Made in America to perform ‘Essence’

Nigerian music superstar Wizkid continues his amazing run with a performance at Made in America as a guest artist of Justin Bieber to perform his hit single ‘Essence’. Wizkid and Bieber recently collaborated on the remix of the record and the two performed it for the first time on stage at the Made in America music festival in Philadelphia.

ECOWAS, Nigeria condemns Guinea coup d’état

The Economic Community of West African States and the Nigerian Government have strongly condemned the coup d’état that took place in the Republic of Guinea Conakry on Sunday.

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, condemned the action in separate statements.

They described the action as a clear violation of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance, demanding for the immediate return to constitutional order.

Akufo-Addo, who is also the Chair of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, said ECOWAS demanded the immediate and unconditional release of President Alpha Condé as well as others arrested. He said: “ECOWAS notes with great concern the recent political developments which occurred in Conakry, Republic of Guinea. She condemns with the greatest firmness this coup attempt on Sunday, September 5, 2021.

“ECOWAS demands respect for the physical integrity of the President of the Republic, the Professor Alpha Condé, and his immediate and unconditional release as well as that of all the personalities arrested

“ECOWAS reaffirms its disapproval of any unconstitutional political change. She asks the defense and security forces to remain in a posture Republican and expresses its solidarity with the Guinean people and Government.”

Onyeama stated: “The Government of Nigeria strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government.

“And therefore calls on those behind this coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect all lives and property.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that on Sunday evening, heavy gunfire exchange was reported near the Presidential Palace in Conakry, the country’s capital.

Following the gun battles, soldiers, who call themselves the National Committee for Reconciliation and Development, appeared on TV, claiming to have dissolved the Conde-led government, taking over power.

Conde’s third term Presidency had earlier sparked violent and mass protest in the country after a disputed election in October 2020 and a new constitution in March 2020, which allowed him to sidestep the country’s two-term limit.…

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has welcomed a baby boy with her hubby Colin Jost.

R. Kelly is on trial in Brooklyn

R. Kelly, the R&B singer who has long faced allegations of sexual abuse, will appear in a Brooklyn courthouse Wednesday for the second week of a high-profile federal sex trafficking trial.

The singer’s alleged pattern of abuse drew intense public scrutiny with the rise of the #MeToo movement, leading to the #MuteRKelly social media campaign, boycotts of his hit records, protests across the country and, perhaps most notably, “Surviving R. Kelly,” a Lifetime documentary series featuring testimony from several accusers.

R. Kelly, 54, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, denies any wrongdoing. He is best known for tracks such as “I Believe I Can Fly” and “Bump N’ Grind.”

The trial’s opening statements are set to begin Wednesday. Here’s a look at what’s at stake.

The charges

R. Kelly was charged in July 2019 with racketeering based on sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, forced labor and Mann Act violations — charges involving the coercion and transportation of women and girls in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity, according to a Department of Justice news release.

The singer, his entourage and his employees — managers, bodyguards, drivers, personal assistants, runners for Kelly — allegedly recruited women and girls to engage in illegal sexual activity with him and arranged for victims to travel to concerts and other events across the U.S., according to court documents.

“For two decades the enterprise at the direction of R. Kelly preyed upon young women and teenagers whose dreams of meeting a superstar soon turned into a nightmare of rape, child pornography and forced labor,” Angel M. Melendez, special agent in charge from Homeland Security Investigations, said when the charges were announced.

Federal prosecutors allege that Kelly forced his victims to follow various “rules.” They were not allowed to leave their room without his permission (including to go to the bathroom or eat), and they were required to call him “Daddy,” according to court documents.

The charges involve six women and girls.

Lil Wayne reveals how he attempted suicide at age 12

American rapper Dwayne Carter Jr also known as Lil Wayne has revealed how he attempted suicide at the age of 12.

The music star made this known while talking about mental health with Emmanuel Acho on Sunday’s episode of ‘Uncomfortable Conversations.’

“When you have no one to vent to, no one to get this out to, you can’t bring it to your friends at school because you’re still trying to be cool to them,” he said.

Wayne said he struggled for two years of his adolescence until his mother learned he had been skipping school.

He said he attempted to take his own life at just 12 years old because he thought his mum would rebuke him from rapping.

Wayne said he called the police then went into his mother’s bedroom to get her gun.

He initially held the gun to his head but got scared and instead decided to shoot himself in the chest, aiming for his heart.

“I didn’t feel a thing,” he recalled.

The rapper’s attempt at killing himself changed his family’s perception of his musical aspirations.

American singer Beyonce got candid about her struggles with insomnia and diet in her recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

The music star who covered the magazine’s ICONS issue spoke about her mental and physical health.

“I’ve personally struggled with insomnia from touring for more than half of my life. Years of wear and tear on my muscles from dancing in heels. The stress on my hair and skin, from sprays and dyes to the heat of a curling iron and wearing heavy makeup while sweating on stage,” she said.

The mother of three and wife to billionaire rapper Jay-Z also talked about how she struggled with her body image.

“In the past, I spent too much time on diets,” she said. She said all that has changed.

How Buratai’s letter to Benin Republic foiled Igboho’s escape to Germany

The Lead agitator for the actualization of ‘Yoruba Nation’, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho and his wife, Ropo, would have successfully fled to Germany, on Monday.

But the swift intervention of Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd.), aborted the ‘discreet journey’ of the Yoruba ethnic campaigner, in the Benin Republic.

PR Nigeria exclusively gathered from credible intelligence that Buratai, a past Chief of Army Staff (COAS), was the ‘main’ brain behind Igboho’s arrest.

Igboho was fleeing Nigeria to the European nation via Benin after he had been declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS), last month. The self-acclaimed secessionist leader’s house in Ibadan was raided during a clandestine operation by a combined team of security operatives and men of the DSS.

Though Igboho escaped during the raid, 12 of his men and a lady, were arrested. They have since been in detention.

An intelligence officer of Nigerian extraction in Benin, on Tuesday, told PR Nigeria, in confidence that, Buratai swung into action immediately Igboho was declared wanted by a Nigerian intelligence agency.

“The ex-Army Chief knew that Igboho has the only option of first fleeing to any neighboring African country sharing borders with Nigeria. And as Nigeria’s ambassador to Benin, which shares several borders with Nigeria, he could not be caught napping,” he said.

According to him, it was in the penultimate week that Buratai tinkered with the idea and then wrote the government of the Benin Republic.

Said the intelligence officer: “Gen. Buratai insisted on the arrest and extradition of the self-acclaimed Yoruba secessionist leader. His secret letter to the Benin government was delivered through the Nigerian Embassy in Benin lookout, asking them to be on the lookout for Igboho.”

That same Buratai’s letter, according to another intelligence officer who spoke to PR Nigeria, was instrumental to the arrest of Igboho and his wife at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the largest city in the French-speaking country.

The Germany Olympics football team’s Twitter account claimed that the players decided to leave because defender Torunarigha had been racially insulted.

“The game had to be stopped five minutes before the end when the score was 1-1. After our player Jordan Torunarigha was racially insulted, the German team left the field together,” the short update read.

The DFB has confirmed to that the alleged insult was made by one of the Honduras players.

There were no spectators at the match, which was a behind-closed-doors game played in Wakayama, Japan.

Speaking after the match, Kuntz commented: “In terms of the game, it was very high level. In the third period I was wondering what was going on with Jordan. Five minutes before the end of the game there was a scuffle.

“I ran to Jordan because I saw his gestures. He was getting terribly upset. He said that he had been racially insulted for the second time. We decided to leave the pitch because it was against our values.

“The whole Honduras squad came over to the bench and apologized. That ended the issue for us and Jordan.”
